Liberty Mutual offers a hybrid Senior Data Engineer role within the Data and Analytics Engineering team (Frontier and PL Distribution). This position focuses on designing, building, and maintaining scalable data pipelines and data solutions using cloud technologies. You will work with product owners and stakeholders across functions, enjoying a competitive salary and a hybrid schedule that requires two days in the office each week in Boston, Portsmouth, or Indianapolis.

  • Compensation: USD 106,000 - 197,000 per year

Responsibilities

  • Architect and maintain scalable data pipelines, data models, and integration processes using cloud technologies such as AWS and Snowflake
  • Analyze complex data sets and technical problems to design robust, flexible solutions aligned with business needs
  • Collaborate with Product Owners, stakeholders, and cross-functional teams to translate business requirements into technical data solutions
  • Develop and support ETL and ELT pipelines for structured and unstructured data from internal and external sources, including APIs, flat files, and enterprise applications
  • Implement data quality checks, validation rules, reconciliations, exception handling, and monitoring to ensure data integrity
  • Create automated tests across unit, system, integration, and regression scopes to ensure reliability
  • Profile data, conduct root cause analysis, and troubleshoot data issues in production and non-production environments
  • Document data flows, data dictionaries, and technical specifications to support governance and knowledge sharing
  • Identify opportunities to continuously improve data engineering processes and tooling
  • Collaborate with engineers and architects, contribute to code reviews and engineering best practices
  • Leverage AI-assisted development tools to enhance coding and workflow efficiency

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in computer science, engineering, information systems, or a related technical or business discipline (or equivalent experience)
  • 5-6 years of experience in data engineering, data analytics, or a related technical role
  • Strong SQL skills, including writing complex queries, data modeling, and experience with relational and analytical databases
  • Familiarity with cloud-based data platforms and tools such as Snowflake and AWS
  • Analytical and problem-solving abilities with the capability to translate data into actionable insights and communicate them clearly
  • Experience working in an agile, squad-based environment with cross-functional teams
  • Proactive, self-motivated, detail-oriented, and able to work independently
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to explain technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders
  • Experience with data integration and ETL/ELT tools such as IDMC
  • Familiarity with CI/CD pipelines, Git version control, and software development best practices
