Senior Data Engineer
Job Description
Impact Consulting Solutions, Inc. is looking for a Senior Data Engineer to own the end-to-end data lifecycle, from source systems through data stores to BI tools. In a remote Scrum team, you will shape a scalable data platform with hands-on exposure to Snowflake, Azure Data Factory, and both relational and NoSQL data stores. This role emphasizes strong data modeling, robust SQL skills, and an ability to translate complex requirements into reliable data solutions.
Responsibilities
- Design and maintain data warehouse solutions to support analytics and reporting needs.
- Apply Kimball and Inmon techniques, including dimensional data stores (DDS), ODS, and slowly changing dimensions.
- Oversee the data flow from source to target to dimension to BI tool.
- Demonstrate advanced SQL proficiency as a core requirement.
- Differentiate between DDL and DML operations within data workflows.
- Decompose data into 3NF and model relational data effectively.
- Ensure ACID transactions are respected in data processes.
- Incorporate basic performance tuning and security considerations.
- Understand CAP theorem implications for data systems.
- Provide senior-level JavaScript development to support data projects.
- Work with non-relational and NoSQL data stores as part of the data ecosystem.
- Translate technical requirements into concrete data solutions through code.
- Maintain exposure to Snowflake and intermediate Azure Data Factory capabilities.
- Use Git/GitHub for source control and manage pipelines with branching and merges.
- Leverage data modeling experience and techniques, including star schemas and data vault, with attention to slowly changing dimensions.
- Thrive in a Scrum environment with a team of four analysts and four engineers and operate as a self-starter.
Requirements
- Data warehousing experience with Kimball and Inmon approaches (DDS, ODS, SCDs).
- End-to-end data flow expertise from source to BI consumption.
- Advanced SQL skills are mandatory.
- Strong understanding of DDL versus DML operations.
- Ability to decompose data to 3NF and model relational structures.
- Experience with ACID transactions and basic performance and security concepts.
- Knowledge of CAP theorem and its implications for data systems.
- Senior-level JavaScript proficiency.
- Experience with non-relational/NoSQL data stores.
- Proven ability to translate requirements into code-driven solutions.
- Exposure to Snowflake and intermediate Azure Data Factory capabilities.
- Source control experience with Git/GitHub, plus pipelines with branching and merging.
- Data modeling experience is a plus, including techniques like star schemas and data vault, and familiarity with slowly changing dimensions.
- Comfortable working within a Scrum team environment of four analysts and four engineers.
- Self-starter with collaborative work style.
