Job Description

The Hanover Insurance Group invites you to join the Claims Analytics team in Worcester, MA, with hybrid or remote work options. This role prioritizes building scalable data models and robust ETL pipelines while upholding data quality and governance to empower analytics and reporting. Responsibilities

  • Drive large, complex projects independently while managing multiple initiatives concurrently
  • Develop scalable data models, data structures, and ETL pipelines that support analytics, reporting, and downstream consumption
  • Prioritize data quality by implementing validation checks, monitoring accuracy and completeness, and documenting data pipelines and processes
  • Collaborate with business partners and cross functional teams on data and reporting requests
  • Own successful outcomes related to designing, developing, implementing, optimizing, and maintaining data pipelines and solutions
  • Lead with an ownership mindset to design and evolve data governance, controls, and standards ensuring security, compliance, and scalability
  • Balance business impact, technical risk, and domain knowledge to deliver high-value outcomes
  • Coach and mentor less senior team members and conduct reviews of their work

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree or higher in Data Science, Mathematics, Statistics, Computer Science, Information Systems, Business Information Technology, or equivalent
  • 8+ years of professional experience in data engineering, data architecture, or data analytics
  • Advanced SQL, Python, Java; Scala is a plus
  • Experience building SQL stored procedures and ETL pipelines using Azure Synapse (Synapse Pipelines/Data Factory)
  • Active Azure DP-203 (Microsoft Certified: Azure Data Engineer Associate) or equivalent; other Azure DP certifications or equivalents are applicable
  • Familiarity with insurance data, with claims data highly preferred
  • Data modeling experience including conceptual, logical, and physical models
  • Strong analytical skills with the ability to profile data and draw conclusions
  • Effective communication skills to present findings and translate data into understandable documentation
  • Critical thinking to interpret numbers and identify trends and insights
  • Attention to detail and strong mathematical aptitude, with insurance domain experience
  • Debugging skills to analyze and remediate issues in data solutions
  • Proven track record implementing data storage, access, integration, and transformation best practices within Azure
  • Experience with Databricks and Delta Live Tables in data engineering contexts
  • Experience optimizing data pipelines for scale, performance, reliability, and cost efficiency
  • Proficiency in relational, NoSQL, hierarchical, and entity relationship data modeling
  • Ability to create clear, consumable documentation of data processes and solutions
  • Experience with agile development methodologies and DevOps best practices
  • Eligible to work in the United States without requiring sponsorship now or in the future
