React Node Senior Software Engineer I

This Senior full stack software engineering position supports Elsevier’s healthcare mission by delivering React-based front-end applications and Node.js back-end services. The work includes designing, building, and maintaining complex client-side experiences and taking applications through the complete software development lifecycle.

Role Summary

You will serve as a senior engineer developing and maintaining complex applications using React for the client side and Node.js for the server side. The role emphasizes responsive, scalable, and secure web application delivery through strong integration between front-end and back-end components.

Key Responsibilities

• Design, develop, and maintain complex applications using React (front end) and Node.js (back end).
• Ensure seamless integration between client-side and server-side components to support web applications that are responsive, scalable, and secure.
• Build user interfaces for a large web monolith as well as small to moderate micro-frontends and services, while maintaining strong standards for accessibility, performance, and usability.
• Implement and optimize user interface components that conform to enterprise design systems and technical standards.
• Lead applications through the full SDLC, from requirements gathering and system design through deployment and ongoing maintenance.
• Support high-quality releases through continuous integration, code reviews, and automated testing.

Collaboration and Team Context

• Partner with Product, UX designers, and other engineers and teams to deliver client-side applications.
• Work with the Clinical Key Web team, responsible for the front end of a flagship Elsevier product used daily by thousands of physicians, nurses, medical students, and other roles to improve patient care and research.

Required Qualifications

• Current and demonstrated frontend and backend skills in both React and Node. Only candidates with this skill set will be considered.
• Experience delivering work on moderate to large web monoliths.
• Experience taking one or more applications through the full project life cycle process.
• Extensive experience using Agile delivery processes for software development.
• Experience collaborating with both technical and non-technical professionals to drive innovation.
• Understanding of crucial applications and products in the Science, Medicine, and Education business vertical.
