Job Description

Join HPE in a hybrid role where you will help shape cloud-native and on-prem security management software. This Principal Systems/Software Engineer position delivers visible technical impact across core platform modules used to manage policies, monitoring, automation, and API-driven integrations for security environments spanning on-premises, cloud, and remote locations.

In this role, you provide technical leadership for end-to-end development of core software components within Security Director Cloud (SD Cloud) and Security Director (On-Prem). SD Cloud is a cloud-native Security Management Platform that offers centralized management, monitoring, policy administration, and automation for Juniper SRX Firewalls, vSRX, Secure Edge, and hybrid cloud security environments, including unified policy management and Zero Trust capabilities. The on-prem version provides centralized management, policy lifecycle management, monitoring, configuration, logging, and automation via a web interface for local deployment needs.

What you’ll do

  • Own multiple core software modules end-to-end for the product, solving technical challenges in a fast-paced development and debugging environment.
  • Lead, mentor, and help grow junior technical talent within the team.
  • Develop organization-wide architectures and software design methodologies across multiple platforms and organizations within the Global Business Unit.
  • Identify and evaluate new technologies, innovations, and outsourced development partner relationships to align with the technology roadmap and business value, including integration and update planning.
  • Review and assess designs and project activities to ensure compliance with development guidelines and standards, providing actionable feedback to improve product quality and reduce failure risk.
  • Influence technical leadership decisions, outsourced development partners, and industry standards groups using domain expertise, business acumen, and experience.
  • Guide less-experienced staff through mentoring, setting examples for software systems design and development excellence.

Core expectations

  • Build cloud product(s) using microservices architecture.
  • Bring extensive knowledge of cloud applications and technologies, with strong analytical and problem-solving skills plus debugging experience.
  • Design and develop software systems design tools and languages.
  • Design and contribute to overall software system architecture for products and solutions, including systems integrated across multiple platform types.
  • Demonstrate experience working with cross-geography, globally distributed teams across multiple time zones and cultures to deliver complex solutions.
  • Ensure high-quality delivery by writing robust unit tests, improving code coverage through automation, validating functionality, and documenting and executing functional test cases prior to QA handoff.
  • Provide experience across several listed technology areas and adapt quickly to adjacent domains.
  • Show a history of innovation through multiple patents or deployed solutions in software design.
  • Communicate effectively in written and verbal English and the local language.
  • Ability to communicate product architectures and design proposals and negotiate options with business unit and executive levels.

Role requirements

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science or Engineering
  • Typically 10+ years of experience

Other tooling: Bazel, Maven, Helm, OAuth2, SAML, JWT, Jenkins CI/CD.

Hybrid work requirement

This role is designed as Hybrid, with an expectation to work on average 2 days per week from an HPE office (San Juan, PR).
