Principal Application Software Engineer

Oracle is seeking a Principal Application Software Engineer in Seattle, WA onsite to lead end-to-end application development, architecture, and API integration with a focus on design reviews, testing, optimization, and mentoring engineers.

Responsibilities

• Lead feature development across a production-grade application, guiding design reviews, testing, and optimization while collaborating with stakeholders.
• Provide global production support for cloud-based applications to address critical issues, applying expertise in at least one specialty area.
• Troubleshoot and debug Oracle applications services, Oracle Cloud Infrastructure, end-user integrations, and acquisitions.
• Partner with QA and engineering teams to discuss changes affecting functionality and ensure quality and consistency across applications.
• Consider existing software architecture when writing code to maintain alignment with the design.
• Translate requirements and features into a structured, scalable, maintainable, and high-performance code plan.
• Establish API dependencies and integration points that support application functionality.
• Discuss requirements with customers while considering scalability and reliability, and help set build priorities within teams.
• Reference feedback from forums, live site maintenance reports, and other sources to refine requirements.
• Collaborate with Designers, Product Managers, Software Engineers, and stakeholders when evaluating customer specs and business needs.
• Design software solutions and analyze requirements to meet business and operational goals; share results with manager.
• Adhere to and improve all phases of the software development lifecycle; coach engineers to drive improvements.
• Use advanced knowledge to guide new features, lead design specifications, ensure accessibility, and document designs and code.
• Lead code reviews across areas to drive quality and improvements.
• Debug complex issues and develop fixes promptly.
• Implement comprehensive testing, QA processes, error logging, monitoring, and observability; share results with management.
• Profile and optimize performance; build scalable solutions and anticipate potential outcomes.
• Resolve complex API issues; implement versioning and lifecycle strategies.
• Provide technical guidance to less experienced developers and ensure architectural adherence.
• Collaborate with stakeholders to align work with software architecture and engage external networks as needed.
• Occasionally conduct technology research and evaluation for potential architectural changes with impact on the team.
• Provide advanced technical guidance and support to customers regarding customer-reported issues when needed.
• Advocate for customers' interests and suggest product enhancements based on feedback.
• Identify and implement customer issue and training processes; ensure timely resolution and effective communication.
• Investigate and troubleshoot maintenance issues to propose short- and long-term solutions.
• Participate in peer reviews, provide technical leadership, and ensure code quality and adherence to broad acceptance criteria.
• Demonstrate and apply industry best practices to software development processes.
• Implement secure coding practices to prevent vulnerabilities.
• Drive automation, testing, and debugging to ensure service availability and reliability.
• Manage moderately complex tasks across multiple projects, delegating and coordinating timelines to meet requirements.
• Collaborate across the organization to align on expectations and ensure solutions meet stakeholder needs while supporting inclusivity.
• Analyze data to identify and address moderately complex issues, escalate when needed, and document problem-solving approaches.
• Pursue ongoing learning, share knowledge, and coach junior team members.
