In this onsite role in Nashville, TN, you will partner across teams and vendors to monitor network health, validate production readiness, and contribute to testing, incident response, and continuous improvements.
What you will do
- Design and develop standard network systems for small and large-scale enterprise, data center, and cloud-based networking environments independently.
- Validate production networks and help scale use cases independently, including participating in network solution design and validation processes on your own.
- Identify risks in network design prior to deployment.
- Collaborate with vendors and internal groups (such as quality assurance) to validate network configurations, hardware, firmware, software, and cloud network code.
- Contribute to the design of playbooks that support standard changes or investigations for common network issues.
- Implement guided improvements to optimize network processes for better efficiency.
- Contribute business logic to automation frameworks for testing and operations to improve efficiency.
- Automate network tasks across production and lab environments, including repetitive support functions, independently.
- Build and customize dashboards, telemetry systems, and alerting mechanisms to monitor network health.
- Write moderately advanced scripts to automate routine tasks for the immediate team and other business units independently.
- Use infrastructure pipelines and configuration items, leveraging established playbooks and resources.
- Adapt and configure tools with guidance to support specific aspects of new product functionality.
- Develop and implement standalone test cases and test strategies independently, and provide expertise in test practices and strategies to guide junior engineers.
- Provide break-fix validation support and conduct post-event root cause analysis (RCA) to address issues.
- Conduct L1 network change reviews and communicate network changes ahead of change management review boards.
- Run tests and verify systems meet defined compliance and readiness criteria under supervision.
- Gather Government, Risk, and Compliance (GRC) data following playbooks and begin to innovate scripts to streamline data collection.
- Interpret advanced metrics from dashboards, telemetry systems, and alerting mechanisms, including defining metrics, trends, and thresholds to ensure service level objectives (SLOs).
- Implement monitoring and alerting systems to detect and diagnose network anomalies.
- Support operational rotations by providing incident response and conducting root cause investigations, seeking assistance as needed for escalated issues.
- Implement tools and solutions for frontline support teams to respond to network failure conditions.
- Collaborate with project/program managers to achieve test and deployment milestones.
- Act as a subject matter expert (SME) for routine issues and provide guidance to junior engineers.
- Engage with customers and contribute to incident response and RCA documentation delivery.
- Participate in roadmap and software architecture discussions, providing feedback on ideas from junior team members.
- Work with vendors and internal teams to ensure adherence to networking standards independently.
- Analyze network performance and service metrics (latency, throughput, packet loss) to identify efficiency issues, with support on next steps.
- Use capacity information through security and performance metrics to help ensure infrastructure supports anticipated growth, requesting guidance as needed.
- Track timelines with minimal supervision, adjusting priorities as resources or timelines change, with some guidance.
- Escalate issues to senior staff as needed in accordance with standard procedures and follow troubleshooting steps using data from multiple sources.
