ML Software Developer II

Join a government R&D team at Aberdeen Proving Ground to develop and apply state-of-the-art machine learning tools that optimize DoD chemical and biological detection systems. This onsite role focuses on Python development, mentoring junior engineers, and contributing to sensor and detector improvements used in military applications. Salary ranges from USD 85,000 to 110,000 per year, with a 401K plan offering up to 4% employer matching, comprehensive medical, dental, and vision coverage, paid time off, federal holidays, sick leave, and disability protection.

Responsibilities

• Develop and apply advanced machine learning tools and algorithms to enhance DoD chemical and biological detection and identification systems.
• Collaborate within a government science and technology R&D team focused on deploying and updating military sensors and detectors.
• Take a lead role on select development efforts.
• Create software applications in Python and apply ML techniques to improve detection and identification of chemical and biological materials.
• Build, test, train, and maintain applications for developmental sensors and instrumentation.
• Develop and use tools to import, process, and store instrument and sensor data files for use in ML workflows.
• Lead certain development efforts and provide mentorship to junior developers.
• Support field testing, train users, and assess system performance.
• Stay current on relevant literature and industry news.
• Assist with preparing reports, journal articles, and presentations.

Requirements

• U.S. citizen eligible for a security clearance
• 5 to 9 years advanced proficiency with Python coding
• 4 years ML project experience including deep learning, NLP, and/or computer vision
• Advanced proficiency with TensorFlow or related products
• Proficiency in another object oriented programming language such as C++
• Advanced proficiency with MySQL databases
• Excellent oral and written communication skills in English
• Demonstrated ability to learn new skills quickly, multitask, and meet deadlines
