Lead Specialty Software Engineer - Capital Markets Reference Data

Wells Fargo offers a lead role that puts you at the forefront of modernizing a Capital Markets reference data platform. This onsite position in Charlotte invites you to shape architecture, design, and development for high performance data ingestion, mastering, and distribution of financial instruments reference data, with a strong emphasis on distributed systems, governance, risk, and AI-enabled delivery. You will guide teams, mentor engineers, and collaborate across stakeholders to drive impactful results.

Responsibilities

• Spearhead complex initiatives within designated domains, delivering scalable and robust solutions.
• Boost development velocity by integrating agentic AI tools into the team's engineering workflows.
• Promote data quality and governance practices, including establishing golden sources, cross-vendor reconciliation, and data lineage tracking across the reference data platform.
• Maintain monitoring of systems to improve operational efficiency and manage risk.
• Identify opportunities to optimize resource use, streamline processes, and reduce costs.
• Architect, design, develop, test, and deploy applications and system components, tools, utilities, models, simulations, and analytics to manage complex business functions with advanced technologies.
• Troubleshoot coding, testing, and escalated platform issues of high complexity.
• Lead the team to meet compliance and risk management requirements for the supported area and collaborate with stakeholders on key risk initiatives.
• Mentor less experienced software engineers.
• Collaborate with and influence professionals at all levels, including managers.

Requirements

• 5+ years of Specialty Software Engineering experience, or equivalent demonstrated through a mix of work experience, training, military service, or education.
• 5+ years designing and implementing distributed systems with Java, including memory management, concurrency, JMS, and native I/O.
• 3+ years using Java 17+, including modern features such as Streams API, records, and enhanced concurrency.
• 3+ years implementing microservices, preferably within the Spring ecosystem (Boot, Batch, and/or Data).
• 3+ years of SQL experience with complex query optimization.
• 2+ years building event driven architectures using Kafka, Solace, or similar technologies.

Job Expectations

• Contribute as a hands-on software engineer delivering components for the Reference Data platform.
• Partner with Product Owners and business users to translate requirements into functional and technical specifications.
• Analyze and refactor legacy systems to align with a scalable microservice architecture.
• Design and document current-state and target-state architectures for platform modernization initiatives.
• Write high-quality, performant Java code using object-oriented principles and proven design patterns.
• Perform thorough unit and functional testing and document development activities per team standards.
• Ensure quality, maintainability, and extensibility of supported systems and risk applications.
• Build resilient applications requiring near zero production support.
• Ramp quickly on new Capital Markets domains within the technology stack.
• Leverage agentic AI tools to accelerate delivery while maintaining high code quality.
• Identify opportunities to improve engineering processes and propose AI-driven enhancements.
