Job Description

As a Lead Software Engineer for Platform Identity at JPMorganChase, you will guide an identity engineering team responsible for always-on authentication and access capabilities used across the firm. The role combines hands-on platform ownership with reliability leadership for services, APIs, automation, and resiliency across regions and cloud providers.

What You’ll Do

  • Design, build, and operate identity platform services and APIs across the portfolio, taking systems from architecture through production operations.
  • Lead reliability and stability improvements using data-driven analytics, proactively identifying and resolving technology bottlenecks in your team’s areas of expertise.
  • Define comprehensive service level indicators in partnership with stakeholders, and help establish service level objectives and error budgets with customers.
  • Own the CI/CD and infrastructure-as-code foundations for the platform, including deployment tooling and plans for scale and resilience across regions (capacity, failover, and disaster recovery).
  • Use enterprise-authorized AI capabilities to accelerate major-incident triage, troubleshooting, and post-incident analysis, validating outputs and handling operational data according to sensitivity and security requirements.
  • Act as the primary point of contact during major incidents for your applications.
  • Partner with security and platform teams to maintain safety, compliance, and governance for identity services.
  • Provide high-level technical expertise in one or more domains and mentor other engineers.
  • Drive reuse-first adoption of AI-assisted reliability workflows across SDLC and toolchain practices, including CI/CD quality checks, test and validation automation, and operational readiness, with traceability and auditability plus resiliency and security controls.
  • Enable enterprise-authorized AI-assisted engineering practices to improve code quality, delivery speed, and operational outcomes, and establish consistent validation standards such as secure coding, peer review, and automated testing.
  • Apply Software Development Life Cycle toolchain knowledge, including enterprise-authorized AI-assisted development and automation capabilities, to increase value delivered by automation.

Required Qualifications

  • Formal training or certification on software engineering concepts and 5+ years of applied experience.
  • Proven proficiency in reliability, scalability, performance, security, enterprise system architecture, toil reduction, and other site reliability practices.
  • Experience designing and building production services and APIs, writing clean and maintainable code, with fluency in at least one programming language such as Python, Java (Spring-Boot), Go, or others.
  • Proficiency with automation and infrastructure-as-code, including Terraform or similar templating languages.
  • Demonstrated experience using enterprise-authorized AI capabilities to improve SRE workflows such as incident investigation support and knowledge capture.
  • Experience with observability, including service level objective alerting and telemetry collection (for example, CloudWatch, Prometheus, Grafana, Tempo).
  • Proficiency with continuous integration and continuous delivery practices and tooling.
  • Experience troubleshooting common networking technologies and issues.
  • Demonstrated experience leading effective use of approved AI-assisted software development tools for coding, code review, test acceleration, and troubleshooting, including setting team expectations for validating AI outputs for correctness, performance, and security.
  • Strong understanding of responsible AI use in engineering workflows, including data sensitivity considerations, secure input and output handling, and coaching engineers on safe and compliant adoption within delivery practices.
