Junior Software Developer
Job Description
The Junior Software Developer role at CGI Group, Inc. sits on an Agile team tasked with designing and building modern, services-based web applications for a large government agency. This position follows a hybrid work model based in Lafayette, Louisiana, with additional opportunities in Knoxville, Tennessee.
Responsibilities
- Contribute to defining and implementing the evolving architecture and development of a new application.
- Write and structure code following best practices, while sharing knowledge with the team to strengthen the group's ability to deliver robust Java applications.
- Engage in all phases of the Agile software lifecycle, including design and requirements gathering, activity estimation, coding, code reviews, and testing.
- Author and review web application code using AI assisted paired programming, with technologies such as Angular, Java, and JavaScript.
- Deploy applications to Kubernetes.
- Apply a fundamental understanding of data structures (document formats, JSON, YAML), problem solving, and algorithm design and analysis.
- Utilize the Spring Framework extensively, including Spring Boot, Spring Batch, and Spring Data.
- Develop experience with RESTful services and API design.
- Participate in daily team discussions and collaborative coding to sustain progress.
- Contribute to client, industry, and end-user discussions to provide technical perspective on the application.
- Attend technical design sessions to create scalable features, provide accurate estimates, and outline development timelines.
- Pursue continuous improvement of development tools and technologies.
- Author automated tests for the application.
- Contribute to system architecture enhancements.
- Develop a general understanding of database design and optimize backend data access.
Requirements
- Experience working in an Agile environment.
- At least two years of experience in HTML, CSS, JavaScript, and Java across frontend and backend development.
- Experience with AI assisted paired programming tooling.
- Familiarity with a modern Java development environment and tools such as Maven, Git, Tomcat, Eclipse, Bamboo, and Hibernate.
- Experience with Kubernetes, Docker, or similar container technologies.
- Positive, proactive attitude and a desire to contribute to team success.
- Strong communication skills with internal teammates and customers.
- Ability to work independently and within a dynamic team, delivering high quality code for reviews and demonstrations.
- Ability to quickly research, learn, and apply emerging software technologies.
