Jr. Software Engineer

Silvervine is building SvApi, the API layer that connects its insurance platform with the outside systems it depends on, and it is expanding the LAAIR team with a junior software engineer. This role is centered on C# and ASP.NET Core integration work, including mapping third-party insurance data into internal models and investigating production integration failures.

What you’ll do

• Build and maintain REST endpoints in C# and ASP.NET Core across services including rating, policy, claims, motor-vehicle records, VIN lookup, loss history, flood risk, and document generation.
• Integrate third-party insurance data providers by reviewing vendor schemas or documentation, modeling responses, and mapping them into SvApi’s internal structures.
• Own response mapping and projections by deciding which fields SvApi exposes to partners and ensuring required data does not go missing silently.
• Write unit and integration tests for your own changes before they are reviewed.
• Apply cross-cutting concerns service by service, including request validation, global exception handling, security headers, and caching.
• Reduce duplicated code by moving shared logic into shared libraries, consolidating serialization and filtering into a core package service by service.
• Debug production integration failures by examining logs, comparing behavior to the legacy platform, and identifying the source of the issue.
• Participate in sprint ceremonies including planning, refinement, standup, and retrospective.

About the LAAIR team and SvApi

SvApi is used when an agent requests a home or auto quote. The API calls data vendors for motor-vehicle records, prior loss history, property valuations, and credit scores, then turns those inputs into a rate. Much of the work is integration: communicating with third-party APIs that Silvervine does not control, mapping vendor responses into internal models, and working through issues when vendors change behavior without notice.

You will begin with well-scoped tasks, with a senior developer reviewing everything you write. As you learn the domain, the scope grows. Silvervine expects the role to be a strong fit for early-career engineers, and it does not require prior insurance knowledge.

Requirements

• Working knowledge of C# and the .NET ecosystem (.NET 6 or newer).
• Comfort with REST APIs, including the experience of calling one and ideally building one.
• Enough JSON and/or XML serialization experience to recognize that model mapping is where bugs tend to appear.
• Enough SQL knowledge to write joins and GROUP BY queries and reason about incorrect row counts.
• Familiarity with git and pull request workflows.
• The ability to say “I don't understand this yet” early rather than late.
• Zero to three years of professional experience, a relevant degree, or a portfolio demonstrating equivalent work.

• Infrastructure as code experience (Bicep, Terraform, ARM).
• Prior exposure to contact with insurance, financial, or other regulated-industry software.
• Exposure to legacy CFML/ColdFusion, since parts of the platform integrate with it.
