Java/Python Lead Software Engineer

Lead Software Engineer role at JPMorganChase within the Commercial & Investment Bank, guiding the design, development, and delivery of secure, scalable technology products as a hands-on technical leader.

Responsibilities

• Develops innovative software solutions, designs systems, and troubleshoots technical challenges with approaches that exceed routine methods
• Produces secure, high‑quality production code and participates in code reviews and debugging of peers
• Promotes enterprise AI assisted engineering practices to lift code quality, speed up delivery, and improve operations, while establishing validation standards and encouraging reuse
• Leverages the Software Development Life Cycle toolchain, including AI‑assisted development and automation, to maximize automation value
• Finds opportunities to automate recurring remediation to boost overall software stability
• Leads evaluation sessions with external vendors, startups, and internal teams to probe architecture, credentials, and fit within existing systems
• Leads communities of practice to raise awareness of new and emerging technologies
• Contributes to a culture focused on diversity, opportunity, inclusion, and respect

Requirements

• Formal training or certification in Software Engineering with 5+ years of hands‑on experience
• Proven track record leading effective use of approved AI assisted development tools, and setting team expectations for validating outputs for correctness, performance, and security
• Strong understanding of responsible AI use in engineering workflows, including data sensitivity, secure handling of inputs/outputs, and adherence to resiliency and security standards; experience coaching teams on safe adoption
• Hands‑on experience delivering system design, application development, testing, and operational stability
• Advanced proficiency in one or more programming languages
• Proficiency in automation and continuous delivery methods
• Solid understanding of all phases of the Software Development Life Cycle
• Deep knowledge of agile practices, including CI/CD, Application Resiliency, and Security
• Demonstrated expertise in software applications and technical processes within cloud, AI, ML, or related disciplines
• Strong grasp of the financial services sector and its IT ecosystems
• Practical cloud native experience
