Job Description

Herdt Consulting Inc is seeking a Java Developer to support Training & Education Management Systems for the Naval Education and Training Command (NETC) in Pensacola, FL. This onsite role focuses on maintaining and enhancing software, modernizing legacy components, and supporting integration and deployment activities using AWS and Java-related technologies.

Responsibilities

  • Provide high-quality software engineering advisory services, including software systems planning, integration, and architecture support.
  • Support comprehensive software maintenance and enhancements across a stack that includes AWS technologies, Java, Visual Studio/C#, JavaScript, and SQL Server databases.
  • Address defects, convert and upgrade legacy code to newer technologies, and develop new software features.
  • Develop and maintain unit tests to help ensure code reliability and correctness.
  • Participate in production deployment activities, including release planning, release documentation, and the creation of release scripts.
  • Perform integration testing across development, staging, and production environments to confirm expected functionality.
  • Ensure the system is maintained in alignment with applicable DoD standards.
  • Meet ATO controls throughout the SDLC, including adding tools to support static and dynamic application security testing.
  • Support software development and integration while following government guidance for strategy, planning, documentation, and implementation.
  • Implement STIGs and maintain required artifacts to support an authority to operate (ATO).
  • Maintain SQL Server databases used by the application.
  • Conduct hardware and software audits of workstations and servers to verify compliance with established standards, policies, and configuration guidelines.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in Software Engineering, Information Technology, Cybersecurity, Data Science, Information Systems, Computer Science, or another 40+ accepted degrees identified at cyber.mil from an ABET accredited or NCAE-C designated institution.
  • Hands-on experience with software development using Visual Studio/C# and JavaScript/JQuery or Java.
  • Cloud-based development experience, preferably in AWS GovCloud.
  • Proficiency in SQL.
  • Proficiency with code versioning tools such as Git.
  • Must hold a Secret security clearance. The requirement may be waived by the customer to an Interim Secret for strong candidates.

Desired Skills

  • Experience applying DevSecOps best practices, software development life cycles, automation toolchains, and CI/CD pipeline practices.
  • Experience building and working with container images.
  • Ability to work independently and collaborate effectively with technical and non-technical cross-functional teams.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.

Location and Work Arrangement

Pensacola, FL 32591 (Required). Work location is in person.

Compensation

USD 58,000 - 60,000 per year.
