Java Developer

Erie and Niagara Insurance Association is seeking a skilled Java Developer to join its information technology team in Williamsville, New York, offering a hybrid work model. The role centers on designing, building, maintaining, and documenting software applications that underpin the company's business operations, with collaboration across departments and a focus on reliability and performance.

Position overview

This full-time role within the IT Department provides technical expertise in the design, development, implementation, maintenance, and documentation of software components that support the company’s business needs.

Responsibilities

• Maintain existing software while developing new applications
• Develop an understanding of the business domain
• Assist with recurring tasks
• Monitor a phone and email based help desk
• Produce technical specifications and test plans
• Create and extend operational documentation
• Consult with colleagues on maintenance and performance of software systems
• Assist with company-wide system upgrades as needed
• Utilize established development tools and conventions including IntelliJ, Java, Visual Studio, ASP.NET, SQL Server, XML, HTML, CSS, and JavaScript
• Investigate and develop skills in new technologies
• Perform other related duties as required

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in Information Systems, or at least five years of relevant experience
• Strong organizational skills with the ability to multi-task
• Ability to set and meet deadlines
• Excellent communication and interpersonal abilities
• Proven experience in object-oriented analysis, design, and programming
• Proficiency with IntelliJ, Java, Visual Studio, .NET Framework, ASP.NET, HTML, XML, CSS, and JavaScript
• Experience with relational databases, specifically Microsoft SQL Server
• Demonstrated ability to quickly master new technologies
