Job Description

Alchemy is building cybersecurity enhancements for hydraulic mobile valve embedded controllers, and the Embedded Software Engineer role is focused on independently verifying and validating those changes. This hybrid position is based in Plymouth, MN, combining embedded security testing, evidence generation for regulatory compliance, and hands-on lab verification.

What you will do

  • Design and execute test plans to independently verify and validate cybersecurity enhancements for hydraulic mobile valve embedded controllers.
  • Assess secure boot architectures, firmware authentication mechanisms, access control models, and secure over-the-air and in-field update processes.
  • Create detailed verification plans, test cases, trace matrices, and documented compliance evidence supporting the European Cyber Resilience Act (CRA) and related regulatory frameworks.
  • Use JTAG debuggers, oscilloscopes, and logic analyzers to perform low-level verification, fault injection, and hardware-in-the-loop (HIL) testing directly on target hardware.
  • Develop and maintain automated Python test scripts for security regression testing, hardware interfacing, and parsing test output.
  • Conduct targeted source code reviews and static analysis on low-level Embedded C firmware to help ensure secure implementations against potential vulnerabilities.

Requirements

  • 5+ years of professional experience in embedded software verification, test engineering, or embedded security validation.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, or a related technical discipline.
  • Hands-on experience developing or testing firmware on Texas Instruments C2000 microcontrollers, including TMS320F2809 or similar TI DSP/MCU architectures.
  • Strong understanding of secure boot, cryptographic signature verification, key management, access control, and secure firmware flashing.
  • Practical understanding of regulatory cybersecurity frameworks, including generating technical evidence for the EU Cyber Resilience Act (CRA), IEC 62443, or ETSI EN 303 645.
  • Strong proficiency in Embedded C (firmware review) and Python (test automation).
  • Proven experience using JTAG debuggers, in-circuit emulators, logic analyzers, and protocol analyzers.
