Digital Software Engineer Intermediate Analyst

Citi is seeking an early-career Digital Software Engineer Intermediate Analyst to help develop, test, and support modern digital applications and services. This role blends hands-on software delivery with continuous learning across cloud-native and event-driven patterns, working within an Agile team environment to support business objectives.

Salary range: USD 84,580 - 118,020 per year

What you’ll do

• Develop, test, and maintain applications using Java, Spring Boot, REST APIs, and microservices frameworks
• Support the design and implementation of cloud-native applications and services
• Participate in development of event-driven solutions using messaging and integration technologies
• Build and support API integrations between internal and external systems
• Write secure, maintainable, well-tested code aligned with established engineering standards
• Join code reviews, testing activities, and Agile development ceremonies
• Troubleshoot and resolve application issues with guidance from senior engineers when needed
• Learn and apply modern engineering practices including CI/CD, automated testing, observability, and DevSecOps
• Use AI-powered developer tools to improve productivity, code quality, and learning
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams to deliver technology solutions that support business goals
• Continuously expand technical knowledge across cloud, microservices, APIs, and distributed systems

What you bring

• 1-3 years of software engineering or application development experience, including internships, co-ops, or equivalent hands-on work
• Experience building applications with Java and Spring Boot
• Basic understanding of microservices architecture, REST APIs, and distributed systems concepts
• Familiarity with cloud-native development principles and exposure to AWS, Azure, or Google Cloud
• Exposure to event-driven architectures, messaging technologies, or asynchronous processing concepts
• Experience developing, consuming, or supporting RESTful APIs and system integrations
• Understanding of the software development lifecycle (SDLC), Agile methodologies, and modern engineering practices
• Familiarity with source control, CI/CD pipelines, and tools such as Git, Jenkins, GitHub Actions, or similar
• Knowledge of container technologies such as Docker and exposure to Kubernetes/OpenShift is a plus
• Strong analytical and troubleshooting skills
• Effective written and verbal communication, with the ability to work collaboratively in a team environment
• Eagerness to learn new technologies and contribute to modern engineering initiatives

Preferred qualifications

• Experience from coursework, internships, personal projects, or professional work building applications with Java, Spring Boot, APIs, or cloud technologies
• Exposure to Kafka, messaging platforms, or event-streaming technologies
• Familiarity with relational and NoSQL databases
• Exposure to automated testing frameworks and software quality tools
• Experience using AI-assisted development tools such as GitHub Copilot or similar to improve coding productivity and software quality
• Interest in cloud engineering, platform modernization, microservices, and DevOps practices
