Starbucks is seeking a Senior Data Engineer in Nashville, TN (onsite) to build enterprise data services and data pipelines that power analytics and real-time decision making. The position requires a Bachelor’s degree and at least two years of software development experience.

Responsibilities

• Develop scalable data services that enable analytics and informed decision making across the organization.
• Design, implement, test, and maintain data pipelines that support continuous data processing for exploration, preparation, and real-time analytics, in alignment with Starbucks guiding principles.
• Create and sustain resilient pipelines spanning batch and streaming processing to support analytics at scale.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams to translate strategic needs into practical data solutions, establish governance and retention practices, and elevate data standards and reliability.
• Advance operational excellence through automation, monitoring, documentation, performance analysis, and root-cause investigation, coordinating with peer teams and vendors as needed.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Management Information Systems, or a related discipline.
• 2+ years of professional experience in software development.

Preferred Qualifications

• 5+ years of experience with SQL platforms
• 2+ years with NoSQL platforms or strong exposure
• 5+ years with Spark and or Hadoop ecosystem (Hadoop, YARN, MapReduce, Pig, Hive)
• 1+ years implementing data platforms on Azure or AWS (advanced scope may align to 2+ years)
• 1+ years with CI/CD tools and practices (advanced scope may align to 2+ years)
• 2+ years exposure to SOA architecture and service integration patterns
• Proficiency in Java, Scala, or C#, with solid debugging, troubleshooting, and performance tuning
• Proficiency in shell scripting, logging/monitoring practices, and enterprise deployment standards
• Experience productionizing big data implementations
• Familiarity with Tableau or similar tools is a plus
• Proven ability to mentor others and operate effectively in Agile/DevOps environments
