Job Description

Builders Mutual is seeking a Data Engineer II to help strengthen its Enterprise Data Warehouse (EDW), expand data marts for business teams, and refine ETL/ELT workflows. This hybrid role in Raleigh, NC supports meaningful, independent technical work paired with collaboration across data and business stakeholders. You’ll work with modern data platforms including SQL Server and Snowflake, while improving data governance, performance, automation, and monitoring.

What you’ll do

  • Design, develop, and optimize scalable ETL/ELT processes to support data integration.
  • Partner with data analysts and business stakeholders to understand and deliver on data requirements.
  • Execute assigned projects independently within agile delivery teams supporting business initiatives.
  • Maintain data quality by identifying and resolving data integrity issues.
  • Implement and monitor data governance, security, and compliance policies.
  • Support performance tuning for SQL queries and database structures.
  • Automate data workflows and improve monitoring and alerting.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve complex pipeline and infrastructure issues.
  • Document and standardize best practices for data engineering processes.

What you bring

  • BA/BS degree (Data, Computer Science, or related field preferred).
  • 3-6 years of experience in data engineering, ETL/ELT development, or database administration.
  • Advanced working knowledge of SQL and experience with relational databases and query authoring.
  • Familiarity with a variety of databases.
  • A solid understanding of data warehouse, data lake, and data modeling concepts.
  • Experience optimizing SQL queries and database performance.
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently while collaborating with cross-functional teams.
  • Insurance industry experience is preferred.

Location and schedule: This locally remote role is based in Raleigh and allows you to work from your home office, collaborating virtually with your team daily. You’ll work from the Raleigh office several times a year for meetings and company events.
