Job Description
Build data infrastructure that directly improves labor planning for Amazon’s delivery network. In this onsite Data Engineer II role in Bellevue, WA, you will help shape an AI-native approach to data engineering for UTR Planning Tech, supporting labor planning across 12 Amazon last-mile and sort-center business lines. You will own core pieces of the data architecture, develop reusable configuration-driven frameworks, and partner with scientists, engineers, BI teams, and product managers to balance customer needs with technical design.
What you’ll do
- Design and own data models for major datasets, creating logical and physical structures that support physical design and multiple downstream consumers.
- Build and optimize ETL pipelines for complex datasets using AWS services such as Redshift, S3, EMR, Glue, Lambda, and Athena, with Python orchestration via Airflow/MWAA.
- Develop configuration-driven data frameworks that replace repetitive custom code across ingestion, transformation, and metric curation, including owning the framework design.
- Create AI agent tooling and MCP-based interfaces that help conversational agents generate SQL, validate configurations, manage data quality rules, and execute pipeline operations using natural language.
- Own ongoing data quality by implementing standardized data contracts, defining SLAs, establishing data certification processes, and automating manual quality workflows.
- Improve self-service access by building analytical data models and tooling that reduce reliance on the DE team for common data access patterns.
- Strengthen engineering processes through automation of manual operations, monitoring and alerting standards, and code quality and dependency management practices.
- Mentor engineers and interns, training team members on how data solutions are constructed, operated, and integrated into the broader architecture.
- Participate in hiring, including the interview process and recruiting for the team.
