Data Engineer

ProFocus is partnering with an established organization in West Jordan, UT to strengthen its data foundation and improve the reliability and traceability of information used across the business. This contract Data Engineer role is focused on making data movement more stable, increasing confidence in data through quality and monitoring, and building sustainable engineering practices for future modernization.

Location: West Jordan, UT (on-site for the first 90 days, then hybrid with 2 days from home each week)
Pay: Target rate $60 to $75 per hour (may vary based on experience)
Duration: Expected 6 to 12 months, with an option to extend

What you’ll work on

• Provide hands-on engineering expertise to understand, stabilize, and improve how data moves between operational systems, the enterprise data platform, reporting tools, and downstream consumers.
• Trace data flows and lineage to improve transparency and operational confidence.
• Strengthen ETL/ELT pipelines and integrations across systems.
• Implement automated data-quality controls to reduce risk and increase trust in the data.
• Improve monitoring, alerting, documentation, and failure recovery so issues are detected early and resolved faster.
• Work with existing integrations, legacy systems, undocumented dependencies, manual processes, and datasets that may vary in quality.
• Make the overall environment more understandable and reliable while establishing engineering practices that support future modernization.

What you bring

• 5+ years of hands-on data engineering, data integration, or related engineering experience.
• Strong SQL skills and experience working with complex relational data.
• Production experience with modern cloud data platforms; Snowflake experience is strongly preferred.
• Experience designing and maintaining ETL/ELT pipelines.
• Experience with APIs, files, databases, batch integrations, and other enterprise integration patterns.
• Experience implementing automated data-quality checks and reconciliation processes.
• Experience with pipeline orchestration, monitoring, logging, and failure recovery.
• Strong understanding of data modeling, transformation, and source-to-target mapping.
• Strong documentation and technical communication skills.
• Preferred: experience in retail, supply chain, inventory, merchandising, e-commerce, loyalty, or financial data environments.
