Data Engineer ETL Developer - Assistant Vice President

Intermediate-level Data Engineer ETL Developer role focused on building and supporting scalable data integration for Citi’s Oracle Ledger program using the Ab Initio platform.

Responsibilities

• Design, develop, and maintain high-performance, resilient, scalable ETL processes using Ab Initio suite components (GDE, Co>Operating System, EME) to transform upstream data into the format required for Oracle Financials SaaS.
• Perform detailed data analysis, data profiling, and data quality assessments to support data integrity across the Strategic Ledger pipelines.
• Translate business requirements from the Strategic Ledger program into technical specifications for ETL jobs and data models.
• Develop and optimize complex SQL queries for data extraction, transformation, and loading across multiple database platforms.
• Create and manage metadata within Ab Initio Enterprise Meta>Environment (EME), including version control and adherence to development standards.
• Build Unix/Linux shell scripts for automation, scheduling, and file manipulation tied to the transformation workflow.
• Monitor and control phases of the development lifecycle: analysis, design, construction, testing, and implementation.
• Provide operational support for production applications, troubleshoot issues, and perform performance tuning to meet business SLAs.
• Apply specialty knowledge of ETL and Ab Initio to analyze complex data problems and propose efficient solutions.
• Collaborate with data architects, business analysts, and other technology teams to align deliverables with enterprise standards and business needs.
• Ensure required procedures are followed and help define operating standards and processes for the ETL framework.
• Act as an advisor or coach to new or lower-level analysts, sharing expertise in Ab Initio and data integration best practices.
• Assess risk in business decisions, with emphasis on firm reputation, safeguarding Citigroup, clients, and assets; drive compliance with applicable laws, rules, and regulations for data handling; adhere to policy; apply ethical judgment; and escalate, manage, and report control issues with transparency.

Requirements

• Hands-on experience in data systems analysis and ETL development.
• In-depth expertise with Ab Initio is mandatory, including GDE, Co>Operating System, and EME.
• Strong SQL proficiency and experience with relational databases (e.g., Oracle, Teradata).
• Unix/Linux experience and shell scripting.
• Experience managing and implementing successful data-centric projects, preferably in financial services.
• Strong understanding of data warehousing, data modeling, and ETL best practices.
• Large-scale data transformation experience and loading data into financial systems (e.g., Oracle Financials, SAP) is highly desirable.
• Ability to work under pressure, manage deadlines, and adapt to unexpected requirement changes.
• Excellent problem-solving and analytical skills.
• Job scheduling tools experience (e.g., Autosys) is a plus.
• Working knowledge of consulting/project management techniques and methods is beneficial.
• 5-8 years of relevant experience.
• Experience in systems analysis and programming of software applications.
• Experience in managing and implementing successful projects.
• Bachelor’s degree/University degree or equivalent experience.
