BI Software Engineer I

What you will be doing

• Participate in all phases of the BI software development lifecycle, supporting existing efforts, troubleshooting issues, and building new modules across multiple small to mid-size projects.
• Lead the design of select software components and propose new frameworks, applications, and features guided by industry trends and technical advances.
• Consult with process owners to review, interpret, and develop systems in alignment with user requirements.
• Support integration efforts to merge BI platforms with enterprise systems and applications.
• Collaborate with a diverse team and mentor junior BI software engineers.
• Serve as primary contact and lead support for multiple BI applications.
• Play a key role in the application lifecycle (design, develop, test, release, support) guided by senior BI engineers and leads.
• Partner with technical and business leaders and product owners to understand requirements and acceptance criteria.
• Develop and maintain reports, dashboards, and visualizations.
• Design and implement BI applications with integration to databases and data warehouses.
• Analyze data to identify discrepancies and performance bottlenecks; apply data modeling techniques to deliver analytical solutions.
• Support mission-critical applications and assist in resolving customer issues.
• Produce clean, well-documented, maintainable code that adheres to coding standards.
• Triage production issues and collaborate with multiple teams to conduct problem analysis.
• Assign and review tasks for junior and offshore BI software engineers.
• Participate in new hire interviews and contribute to standards and technology decision-making.
• Respond to user questions and provide guidance on feasibility and implementation strategies.
• Communicate status and issues to team members and stakeholders, coordinating with project and cross-functional teams.
• Ensure solutions are sustainable across implementation and use, addressing open issues and ensuring on-time delivery and hand-offs.

Penske responsibilities

• Be the primary contact and lead support for multiple BI applications.
• Play a critical role in supporting the full application lifecycle based on detailed requirements and guidance from senior engineers.
• Collaborate with technical and business leaders to understand requirements and acceptance criteria.

• Assist in merging BI platforms with enterprise systems and applications; identify data discrepancies and performance bottlenecks.
• Apply data modeling methodologies to translate data into actionable analytics and drive information-based decision making.
• Support mission-critical applications and help resolve customer issues; produce maintainable code that meets standards.

• Influence standards and technology decisions to keep tools, conventions, and design patterns current.
• Provide business-support guidance on technical feasibility and implementation strategies; communicate status to stakeholders.
• Ensure sustainable solutions across implementation and use, with timely hand-offs.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science or Computer Engineering, or equivalent years of software development experience.
• 5–7 years of technology experience.
• 4+ years of hands-on experience building BI applications with tools such as Qlik Sense, Power BI, Tableau, etc.
• Experience with full BI software development lifecycle.
• Proficiency in Java, React, Angular, jQuery, HTML, JavaScript, CSS, APIs, and web services.
• Experience with UI/UX design frameworks and patterns; relational database design and data modeling techniques.
• Understanding of Big Data analytics and reporting; experience with AWS cloud environments.
• Experience with data-driven testing approaches; knowledge of analytical methods and regression models.
• Knowledge of technical project management and BI design frameworks; familiarity with industry best practices.
• Experience with Agile methodologies; strong troubleshooting and research abilities.
• Ability to estimate medium to large projects and communicate effectively with diverse teams.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
