Job Description

We are seeking a System Software Engineer in Austin, TX (onsite) to design, implement, and optimize software for autonomous surface vessels.

Job Overview

Prepare and refine software for autonomous surface vessels, collaborating with cross functional teams to deliver robust solutions tailored to maritime operations.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and maintain software for autonomous navigation, control, and communications on surface vessels using NixOS
  • Work with hardware engineers to integrate software with vessel subsystems for seamless operation
  • Implement control and sensor fusion algorithms
  • Improve network communication efficiency in low bandwidth and high latency environments
  • Test and validate software to ensure reliability and performance in real world maritime scenarios
  • Participate in code reviews and uphold coding standards to ensure scalable, maintainable software
  • Troubleshoot and resolve complex software issues promptly
  • Document software designs, processes, and test results for compliance and knowledge sharing
  • Stay informed on industry trends, emerging technologies, and best practices in autonomous systems

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related field
  • 1+ years of software development experience, preferably in autonomous systems or robotics
  • Proficiency in C, C++, or Rust
  • Strong foundations in algorithms, data structures, and software design patterns
  • Experience with embedded Linux systems and embedded software development
  • Experience with low level serial protocols (RS-232, CAN) is a plus
  • Strong understanding of networking principles and protocols (TCP/IP, UDP) is a plus
  • Familiarity with sensors, control systems, and maritime operations is a plus
  • Knowledge of DoD standards and regulations related to software development is a plus
  • Excellent problem solving skills and ability to thrive in a fast paced startup environment
  • Strong communication skills and ability to collaborate effectively with cross functional teams
