Job Description

The Staff Software Engineer for Mobile Applications leads the technical architecture of Home Depot's mobile shopping experience, guiding architecture discussions, mentoring engineers, and partnering with Product Management, the Engineering Manager, and the Principal Engineer to design, deliver, and evolve scalable mobile applications.

Responsibilities

  • Delivery and Execution Develops, tests, deploys, and maintains software with a clear view of the value delivered; approaches issues with a broad, global perspective and consistently achieves results under challenging conditions; builds test suites to enable rapid production deployments and pursues new opportunities with urgency and energy.

  • Supports and Enables Field questions from product and engineering teams; mentors junior engineers by sharing guidance on modern software development frameworks and leading technical discussions; identifies gaps and suggests changes to boost team productivity.

Physical Requirements

Minimum Qualifications

  • Must be eighteen years of age or older.
  • Must be legally permitted to work in the United States.

Preferred Qualifications

  • 8+ years of software engineering experience with a proven track record of architecting and delivering large-scale, customer-facing mobile applications.
  • Ability to lead the technical direction of complex, cross-team initiatives, including architecture design, technical strategy, legacy modernization, and system refactoring.
  • Experience navigating ambiguous technical challenges, evaluating tradeoffs, identifying risks, and delivering scalable, maintainable solutions from concept through production.
  • Deep expertise in native mobile development with strong knowledge of architecture, design patterns, performance optimization, networking, security, and engineering best practices.
  • Experience with modern cross-platform technologies and architectures such as React Native, Kotlin Multiplatform, Flutter, and WebView-based solutions.
  • Experience designing, consuming, or influencing RESTful or GraphQL APIs with a solid understanding of client-server architecture and backend integration.
  • Strong understanding of software quality and developer productivity practices, including CI/CD, automated testing, release management, observability, and operational excellence.
  • Commitment to improving engineering velocity through automation, reusable frameworks, tooling, and continuous process improvement.
  • Proven ability to collaborate effectively with Product, UX, Backend, QA, SRE, and other engineering teams to deliver end-to-end customer experiences.
  • Demonstrated ability to influence technical decisions beyond direct ownership and to drive engineering initiatives without formal authority.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to explain technical concepts to both technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Proven mentoring experience, developing technical leaders, and raising engineering standards through architecture reviews, code reviews, guidance, and knowledge sharing.
  • Commitment to fostering a culture of technical excellence, collaboration, continuous learning, and pragmatic decision-making.
