Job Description
Walmart is hiring a Staff Software Engineer to help lead the development and delivery of scalable platform capabilities, spanning infrastructure, tooling, and AI/ML frameworks. This hybrid role supports end-to-end delivery across the full software lifecycle, with a focus on cloud-native design, technical rigor, and engineering mentorship.
Working from 2608 Se J St, Bentonville, AR 72716-3724, you’ll contribute to platform roadmap execution and partner across teams to turn technical and user needs into well-scoped implementation plans.
What you’ll do
- Deliver platform capabilities, including infrastructure, tooling, and ML frameworks, aligned to roadmap milestones and domain priorities.
- Own full software development lifecycle work: coding, testing, deployment, monitoring, and ongoing maintenance.
- Apply cloud-native architecture principles to build systems that are scalable, resilient, and adaptable.
- Lead system design reviews to confirm feasibility and adherence to architectural best practices.
- Build AI-driven applications that integrate ML components and automation features.
- Mentor engineers, influence technical decisions, and help raise engineering excellence across the team.
- Collaborate with cross-functional partners to define user problems and translate them into actionable technical requirements.
- Use data-driven approaches to measure success metrics and optimize development processes.
Required skills
- Extensive experience in software development, with proficiency in languages commonly used by Full Stack engineers such as JavaScript, Python, Java, Rust, Dart, and C++.
- Strong object-oriented programming background, plus experience with code review, debugging, and documentation-based coding practices.
- Proven ability to deliver scoped features and models using iterative development and continuous integration.
- Experience integrating AI/ML components and leveraging generative AI tools to enhance software solutions.
- Demonstrated capability designing scalable, secure, and maintainable systems tied to business objectives.
- Effective collaboration and communication skills with cross-functional teams and stakeholders.
- A commitment to engineering excellence, continuous improvement, and technical ownership.

Minimum qualifications
- Option 1: Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Computer Information Systems, Software Engineering, or a related area, plus 4 years of experience in software engineering or a related area.
- Option 2: 6 years of experience in software engineering or a related area.
Preferred qualifications
- Master’s degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Computer Information Systems, Software Engineering, or a related area, plus 2 years of experience in software engineering or a related area.
- Experience creating inclusive digital experiences, including implementing WCAG 2.2 AA and integrating accessibility using assistive technologies.
- Knowledge of accessibility best practices, aligned with Walmart accessibility standards and guidelines for supporting an inclusive culture.
Compensation and schedule
- Location: Bentonville, AR (hybrid)
- Salary range: USD 110,000 - 220,000 per year
- Work arrangement: Flexible, hybrid work
