Sr. Software Engineer

Berkley is hiring a Sr. Software Engineer for the Sales & Marketing team in Urbandale, IA (onsite). In this role, you will modernize and support software that powers Sales & Marketing initiatives, build reliable ETL and data movement workflows, and help improve production stability through thoughtful engineering practices and on-call support. Responsibilities

• Review, refactor, and modernize existing C#/.NET code to improve quality, maintainability, performance, and supportability.
• Design, develop, test, and maintain applications supporting Sales & Marketing initiatives.
• Define and enforce development standards, design patterns, and coding best practices, including documentation expectations.
• Design and implement enterprise system integrations and interfaces.
• Design, develop, and support ETL processes for large-scale data movement between enterprise applications, CRM platforms, databases, and cloud services.
• Design, develop, and maintain SQL Server databases, ensuring data integrity and performance optimization.
• Ensure secure data access and take ownership of production stability.
• Collaborate with Product Owners, Business Analysts, stakeholders, and end users to translate business requirements into technical solutions.
• Design, execute, and analyze A/B tests or similar experiments to optimize features and user experience.
• Perform and coordinate QA testing and job regression testing before and after production deployments.
• Support Agile execution by participating in sprint planning, backlog refinement, and ceremonies, including validating scope and estimating effort.
• Provide customer-focused support with urgency, ownership, and accountability, including Tier 1 after-hours/on-call support and incident triage rotation.
• Adapt quickly to new technologies, tools, and platforms, and solve complex technical and business problems.
• Work effectively in a distributed and virtual team environment and support continuous improvement across Sales & Marketing technology platforms.
• Use Azure, Azure Service Bus, and Data Factory for cloud solutions and Microsoft Copilot or other AI-assisted development tools.
• Complete code reviews and PR approvals for onshore and offshore resources, ensuring PRs meet coding standards, security practices, documentation expectations, and deployment guidelines, with clear, constructive feedback.

Requirements

• 3+ years of software development experience.
• Strong background in C#/.NET, SQL Server, Python, and ETL / Data Integration, including experience developing applications and building data integration workflows.
• 3+ years of experience with cloud computing platforms, especially Microsoft Azure.
• Experience participating in or leading code reviews and PR approval processes.
• Ability to work independently, deliver results with minimal supervision, and operate in a fast-paced environment.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills for both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
• Customer service mindset with strong urgency and accountability.
• Strong analytical, troubleshooting, and problem-solving skills.
• Proven collaboration experience within distributed or offshore/onshore team models.
• Experience using Atlassian tools: Jira, Confluence, Bitbucket.
• Strong engineering judgment and attention to detail, with ownership of code quality and production stability.
• Bachelor’s degree with emphasis in a related field or equivalent experience.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience with Jenkins for job scheduling, application deployment, automation, and data processing workflows.
• Experience with GitHub, GitHub Actions, and modern CI/CD practices.
• Experience with Microsoft Power Platform (Power Automate, Power Apps, Power Pages, Dataverse).
• Experience with Microsoft Dynamics 365 CRM or Salesforce Development.
• Experience designing and supporting enterprise CRM and marketing system interfaces.
• Experience working with Microsoft Copilot or other AI-assisted development tools.
• Experience working in Agile/Scrum development environments.
• Knowledge of or experience in the Property & Casualty (P&C) Insurance industry.
• Working knowledge of Entity Framework.
