Sr. Software Engineer

Versant Media is building and operating a video platform ecosystem that supports digital, OTT, and authenticated viewing experiences. In this Senior Software Engineer role, you will work hands on across the full video delivery path, from client playback integrations to live and on-demand streaming workflows, with a focus on reliability, quality of experience, and measurable observability.

What you’ll do

• Lead development of video player frameworks and SDKs across web, iOS, Android, and CTV.
• Build seamless playback integrations with authentication, personalization, and analytics systems.
• Improve startup time, buffering, bitrate adaptation, and overall QoE across devices and network conditions.
• Ensure platform support for real-time and near-real-time workflows for live sports, news, and event-based programming.
• Implement advertising capabilities using DAI and core ad tech integrations across the platform landscape.
• Deliver secure, scalable integrations with MVPDs, identity providers, and subscription platforms.
• Integrate with personalization services and data platforms to enable user-specific context and optimizations.
• Drive execution across multiple concurrent initiatives while maintaining predictable delivery and alignment with business priorities.
• Contribute through code reviews, pair programming, and knowledge-sharing to raise team quality.
• Mentor junior engineers and support a culture of continuous learning and improvement.
• Make security, performance, and maintainability core considerations in all solutions.
• Partner with teams across Product, Distribution, Ad Tech, Data, and Editorial to deliver integrated video experiences.
• Coordinate with Infrastructure, Cloud, and DevOps to ensure scalable and reliable platform operations.
• Work with product and architecture teams to align on technical direction and business priorities.

What you bring

• 6+ years of experience in video engineering or streaming platforms supporting media, broadcast, or OTT environments.
• Experience with HLS/DASH, DRM, CDNs, encoding/transcoding, and player frameworks.
• Proficiency in modern JavaScript/TypeScript and HTML/CSS, plus experience with React, Vue, or Angular.
• Experience building and integrating backend services using Node, Python, or Go.
• Familiarity with ad-supported video workflows, including AVOD and monetization.
• Strong understanding of Identity, Personalization, Authentication, and Subscription systems.
• Expertise in analytics, observability, and performance monitoring.
• Familiarity with AWS or Azure and CI/CD methodologies.
• Strong communication skills and a collaborative approach.

Location and schedule

• New York City, NY or Englewood Cliffs, NJ (hybrid: 3 days onsite).
• Englewood Cliffs office amenities include free employee parking, complimentary electric vehicle charging, an on-site fitness center with locker rooms and towel service, and dry-cleaning drop-off and pick-up.
• Shuttle service is available to and from the Englewood Cliffs campus with pickup locations across Manhattan’s East Side and West Side, Brooklyn, Hoboken, Jersey City, Newark, and Secaucus.

Compensation

USD 140,000 - 170,000 per year.
