Job Description

The Sr. Data Engineer will join NBCUniversal’s Content Delivery Engineering (CDE) team to design, develop, and maintain scalable data systems that ingest, process, and store large volumes of data. This role supports data modeling, alerting, reporting, and visualization, with integrations into the streaming service architecture.

Role Responsibilities

  • Design, develop, and maintain new and existing data systems and pipelines, emphasizing reliability, testability, and ease of use.
  • Support feature preparation for modeling by assisting with cleansing, discretization, imputation, selection, and generalization.
  • Partner with business stakeholders to define business requirements, including KPI and acceptance criteria.
  • Use big data, relational, and non-relational data sources to retrieve data at the proper level of granularity for analytical projects.
  • Keep current on dataset structure and contribute to defining upgrades and modifications.
  • Collaborate with software and data architects to build real-time and automated batch implementations of data science solutions and integrate them into the streaming service architecture.
  • Maintain a consistent peer review practice for code and configuration changes, aligned with sensible repository structures and CI/CD pipelined deployments.
  • Participate in, or lead, design reviews, architectural discussions, and team knowledge-sharing sessions.
  • Use observability systems and advanced analytics to surface issues, diagnose root causes, and implement fixes.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in computer science, information technology, or a relevant field.
  • 5+ years of experience with big data, including ETL, pipeline building, analysis and code, with expertise in at least one programming language.
  • Experience building scalable, distributed, highly available, and resilient systems using industry standard data platforms (Snowflake, Databricks, GCP, AWS, or similar).
  • Proficiency with software repositories, CI/CD pipelines, and test automation.
  • Experience with data visualization tools and techniques.
  • Strong SQL skills for data processing.
  • Experience applying Site Reliability Engineering (SRE) practices to support scalability and reliability in cloud environments.
  • Familiarity with Agile methodologies, including Scrum and Kanban.
  • Ability to communicate clearly through design documents, text, voice, and code across a diverse set of nationalities.
  • Knowledge and/or production exposure to using CDNs to deliver streaming media is advantageous; full training can be provided.

Work Location and Schedule

Location: New York, NY (hybrid)

This role has a hybrid schedule that requires contributing from the office a minimum of four days per week. The company may change in-office requirements at any time.

Salary

USD 115,000 - 145,000 per year
