Job Description

Exelon offers an onsite opportunity in Oakbrook Terrace, IL with a strong compensation package and comprehensive benefits. The Senior Data Engineer 1 in Enterprise IT Data Analytics earns a salary range of USD 104,800 to 144,100 per year, with eligibility for a 15% annual bonus, plus a 401(k) match with an annual company contribution and a full roster of health, life, and wellness programs. This role supports enterprise IT data initiatives, emphasizes collaboration with business and IT partners, and provides avenues for professional growth within a supportive, security‑conscious culture.

Responsibilities

  • Plan, document, and participate in work activities for projects, sub-projects, or processes. For small projects, analyze requirements, design, build, and test IT software solutions per IT project management standards; for operations and maintenance, enhance or support existing IT products and processes to meet the defined service level agreement (45%).
  • Assist in creating documentation for products and services and apply best practices to improve offerings for business unit partners, monitoring adherence to standards within the team according to the Management Model (15%).
  • Maintain and strengthen engagement with business and IT partners and other stakeholders (15%).
  • Foster a positive team environment by mentoring and training less experienced personnel (15%).
  • Proactively expand technical knowledge and business acumen within the discipline or function (10%).
  • Resolve complex problems, including collaboration with vendors and other IT professionals.
  • Assist in developing work plans for project phases with limited review, identifying unexpected challenges and resolving them with minimal guidance.
  • Deliver services in support of Exelon Utility Analytics.
  • Design, implement, and enforce security policies and controls to protect systems and data from unauthorized access; analyze data security systems and prepare reports for management on usage patterns.
  • Make informed decisions on monitoring settings such as sample size and criticality, and identify self-healing opportunities where appropriate.
  • Drive the innovation process by evaluating lessons learned and applying improvements to future tasks.
  • Operate under limited supervision.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in computer science or a related discipline and 4–7 years of experience in data warehouse design, business intelligence reporting, and ETL/TLT processing, or a 6–9 year equivalent combination of education and work experience.
  • Demonstrated in‑depth knowledge of Big Data technologies and their impact on the company’s systems infrastructure.
  • Experience implementing enterprise‑wide data standards, including business definitions and naming standards.
  • Experience participating in user interviews as part of a systems development team to gather information for analysis or technical work.
  • Proficiency with scripting tools such as PowerShell or Ansible to automate tasks, create reports, and troubleshoot existing scripts.
  • Strong understanding of how the System Development Life Cycle fits into the broader development lifecycle.
  • Proven ability to disseminate information effectively to users, management, customers, and others with varying levels of subject knowledge.
  • Thorough understanding of how to use a variety of tools in complex applications.
  • Solid understanding of the capabilities of standard monitoring tools.
