Job Description

The Sr Software Engineer works on complex software systems across design, development, testing, integration, and ongoing enhancement. This onsite role in Annapolis Junction, Maryland also includes team leadership responsibilities and contributions to system design decisions, including hardware and software trade-offs and the appropriate use of COTS and GOTS solutions.

Key Responsibilities

  • Serve as a critical component in supporting national safety and security objectives.
  • Analyze user requirements to derive software design and performance requirements.
  • Debug existing software, correct defects, and maintain reliable system behavior.
  • Design and code new software or modify existing software to add features.
  • Integrate existing software into new or modified systems and operating environments.
  • Develop simple data queries for existing or proposed databases and data repositories.
  • Apply knowledge of ITOM, ITSM, HRSD, CSM, and/or Service Portal capabilities.
  • Code using programming languages and databases including HTML, CSS, and JavaScript.
  • Write or review software and system documentation, and improve documentation standards.
  • Act as team lead at the level appropriate to the software development process used on each project.
  • Design or implement complex database or data repository interfaces and queries.
  • Develop algorithms that meet or exceed system performance and functional standards.
  • Assist with developing and executing test procedures for software components.
  • Develop software solutions by analyzing performance standards, coordinating with users or system engineers, evaluating system flows and data usage, and investigating problem areas.
  • Modify software to correct errors, adapt to new hardware, and improve performance.
  • Use scientific analysis and mathematical models to design and modify software systems and predict outcomes and consequences.
  • Design and implement complex algorithms while meeting strict timing, system resource, or interface constraints, including quality control on team outputs.
  • Oversee one or more software development teams and ensure delivery aligns with the constraints of the applicable software development process.
  • Coordinate software installation and monitor equipment functioning to ensure operational specifications are met.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or a related discipline from an accredited college or university. Four (4) years of additional SWE experience on projects with similar software processes may be substituted for a bachelor’s degree.
  • Two (2) years of experience developing and customizing core applications such as Incident, Problem, Change, Knowledge, and Service Catalog.
  • Four (4) years of IT application systems experience in technology solutions delivery.
  • Experience creating and implementing scripts, business rules, policies, ACLs, and configuring or modifying ServiceNow applications to meet requirements.
  • Experience integrating third-party software and APIs with ServiceNow using REST and SOAP.
  • Coding experience in scripting languages including JavaScript, HTML, CSS, AngularJS, JSON, or other languages used in ServiceNow.
  • Four (4) years of experience with ServiceNow implementations.
  • Two (2) years of experience developing on the ServiceNow Platform.
  • Maintain ServiceNow System Administrator certification or ServiceNow Application Developer certification.

Compensation

Salary: USD 195,500 - 264,500 per year.
