Job Description

CoreVault Solutions is seeking a Software Engineer or Senior Software Engineer to help design, develop, integrate, test, and sustain mission-critical software for the Department of War, other government customers, and commercial clients. In this role, you will build backend services and integrations that support operational environments, including sensor and system connectivity and data-driven decision support.

Role Focus

  • Design, develop, test, integrate, deploy, and maintain mission-critical software applications and services.
  • Build backend services, APIs, data-processing components, interfaces, and system integrations.
  • Support command and control, air domain awareness, unmanned systems, geospatial visualization, and operational decision support.
  • Integrate external sensors, platforms, data feeds, tactical applications, and government systems.
  • Develop software to process, correlate, distribute, store, and visualize operational data.
  • Troubleshoot software behavior across distributed and networked environments.

Engineering and Delivery

  • Participate in software architecture, design reviews, code reviews, testing, and technical planning.
  • Create automated tests and support integration, regression, and acceptance testing.
  • Support containerized applications and deployment using Kubernetes, Helm, and related technologies.
  • Partner with DevSecOps and systems engineering personnel to improve build, deployment, configuration, monitoring, and release processes.
  • Identify and remediate software defects, security findings, performance issues, and integration problems.
  • Maintain technical documentation.
  • Support demonstrations, exercises, customer testing, field deployments, and operational troubleshooting as required.
  • Collaborate directly with government customers, operational users, engineers, and external technical partners.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in computer science, software engineering, computer engineering, or a related technical field (or equivalent combination of education and relevant experience).
  • Professional software-development experience appropriate to the level of the position.
  • Strong programming skills in Java and/or other modern object-oriented programming languages.
  • Experience developing backend applications, services, APIs, or distributed systems.
  • Experience using software-development tools, source control, debugging, testing, and build processes.
  • Working knowledge of Linux environments.
  • Understanding of networking concepts and software communication between distributed systems.
  • Ability to analyze complex problems and independently develop practical technical solutions.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Must be legally authorized to work in the United States.
  • Must be eligible to obtain and maintain the U.S. Government security clearance required for the position.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Current U.S. Department of War Secret or higher security clearance.
  • 5+ years of professional software-development experience, with leadership experience possibly qualifying for the Senior level.
  • Experience developing software for Department of War, federal government, aviation, UAS, command-and-control, or mission systems.
  • Experience with Java, Spring/Spring Boot, Gradle, REST APIs, messaging systems, databases, or distributed architectures.
  • Experience with Docker/OCI containers, Kubernetes, Helm, CI/CD, and automated deployment.
  • Experience with geospatial systems and related ecosystems (including maps, TAK/ATAK, Cursor-on-Target, ADS-B, sensors, radar, RF, or UAS data).
  • Experience developing Android applications, ATAK plugins, or integrations with TAK/CoT ecosystems.
  • Experience with Azure, AWS, GovCloud, or hybrid cloud/on-premises environments.
  • Familiarity with secure software development, STIGs, vulnerability remediation, and government cybersecurity requirements.

  • Salary range: $105,000.00 - $142,931.95 per year (as listed).

Location, Travel, and Work Authorization

  • Work location: Rome, NY (in person), 13440 (required).
  • Travel: Up to 20% CONUS (occasional OCONUS opportunities listed) and willingness to travel of 25% (required).
  • Security clearance: Must be eligible to obtain and maintain the U.S. Government security clearance required for the position; current U.S. Department of War Secret clearance preferred.
  • Work authorization: Must be legally authorized to work in the United States; CoreVault Solutions does not provide employment visa sponsorship for this position.
