Software Engineer, Research Tooling
Job Description
Software Engineer on the Research Tools team at Anysphere, focused on full-stack infrastructure and applications that help researchers iterate faster, run complex experiments, and turn results into insights.
Responsibilities
- Develop and maintain full-stack applications and infrastructure used daily by researchers, including experiment setup, feedback capture, and results analysis.
- Take ownership of product areas end to end, from user needs to design, implementation, and ongoing iteration.
- Set engineering standards for building research applications and ensure consistency across the platform.
- Build reusable platforms and tools to accelerate the creation of new research applications, then prototype, ship, and iterate based on real usage.
- Work closely with research teams to translate workflows and recurring pain points into intuitive interfaces and abstractions for complex research work.
Requirements
- Experience building tools, platforms, or infrastructure for technical users such as engineers, researchers, data scientists, or analysts.
- Demonstrated ability shipping full-stack products and owning systems across the stack, including UI through storage and services, using technologies such as TypeScript and React with Node, Python, or Go.
- Experience building dense, data-focused tools (examples: transcript viewers, diffing systems, review queues, observability products, operational dashboards).
- Strong opinions on how structured data should be rendered.
- Product instincts to identify high-value problems and convert concepts into working prototypes efficiently.
- Ability to operate quickly in ambiguous situations, collaborate closely with researchers and domain experts, and evolve open-ended needs into reliable product outcomes.
- No prior ML or research experience required.
