Job Description

The Lead Software Engineer role within KBR's National Security Solutions focuses on guiding junior and mid-level engineers to develop proofs of concept for unique capabilities. This on-site position in Maryland includes travel up to 50 percent and requires a Secret clearance to start.

Responsibilities

  • Mentor and lead junior and mid-level engineers to build proofs of concept for one-of-a-kind capabilities.
  • Perform peer testing and code review to ensure quality and reliability.
  • Troubleshoot and debug issues across development efforts.
  • Contribute to all levels of the system architecture and design decisions.
  • Maintain key technical documentation for the system and its components.
  • Develop familiarity with new tools, processes, and best practices.
  • Identify opportunities for process improvement and broader adoption of software development, unit testing, agile scrum, and DevSecOps practices.
  • Collaborate with the team to author technical reports and demonstrate capabilities to internal and external stakeholders.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Engineering, or another technical field with 5 years of experience.
  • Master’s degree with no years of relevant experience.
  • Master of Science or Master of Arts in a related field with 3 years of experience.
  • Active Security Clearance: Secret required to start, with the ability to obtain TS/SCI.
  • Active Security+ Certification, or equivalent, or the ability to obtain one within 6 months from the start date.
  • Strong knowledge of C, C++, Java, or other cross-platform C-style languages.
  • Experience developing software for and configuring Linux and/or Unix systems.
  • Demonstrated experience writing, testing, and debugging software.
  • Ability to develop and document system-level design options, including integration with COTS and GOTS systems and software.
  • Experience with version control, issue tracking, and documentation tools.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively.
  • Adaptability and initiative to perform a wide variety of tasks to support program success.

Work Environment

  • Location: On-Site – 8300 Professional Place, Landover, MD
  • Travel Requirements: Up to 50 percent (CONUS and OCONUS)
  • Working Hours: Willingness to work outside of normal working hours

Desired Qualifications

  • Active TS/SCI clearance
  • Active Security+ Certification
  • Strong knowledge of Linux operating systems
  • Linux development experience at both user and kernel levels
  • Experience modifying and compiling large open-source codebases
  • Experience with containerization technologies such as Docker
  • Experience with DevSecOps tools such as GitLab, SonarQube, and Coverity
  • Experience with dnf package management using local repositories

Basic Compensation

$101,500 - $152,200 (This range is for Maryland only)

Additional Compensation

  • KBR may offer bonuses, commissions, or other forms of compensation to certain job titles or levels, per internal policy or contractual designation.
  • Additional compensation may include sign-on bonuses, relocation benefits, short-term incentives, long-term incentives, or discretionary payments for exceptional performance.
