Software Engineer, Lead Associate
Job Description
The Lead Software Engineer role within KBR's National Security Solutions focuses on guiding junior and mid-level engineers to develop proofs of concept for unique capabilities. This on-site position in Maryland includes travel up to 50 percent and requires a Secret clearance to start.
Responsibilities
- Mentor and lead junior and mid-level engineers to build proofs of concept for one-of-a-kind capabilities.
- Perform peer testing and code review to ensure quality and reliability.
- Troubleshoot and debug issues across development efforts.
- Contribute to all levels of the system architecture and design decisions.
- Maintain key technical documentation for the system and its components.
- Develop familiarity with new tools, processes, and best practices.
- Identify opportunities for process improvement and broader adoption of software development, unit testing, agile scrum, and DevSecOps practices.
- Collaborate with the team to author technical reports and demonstrate capabilities to internal and external stakeholders.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Engineering, or another technical field with 5 years of experience.
- Master’s degree with no years of relevant experience.
- Master of Science or Master of Arts in a related field with 3 years of experience.
- Active Security Clearance: Secret required to start, with the ability to obtain TS/SCI.
- Active Security+ Certification, or equivalent, or the ability to obtain one within 6 months from the start date.
- Strong knowledge of C, C++, Java, or other cross-platform C-style languages.
- Experience developing software for and configuring Linux and/or Unix systems.
- Demonstrated experience writing, testing, and debugging software.
- Ability to develop and document system-level design options, including integration with COTS and GOTS systems and software.
- Experience with version control, issue tracking, and documentation tools.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively.
- Adaptability and initiative to perform a wide variety of tasks to support program success.

Desired Qualifications

Basic Compensation
$101,500 - $152,200 (This range is for Maryland only)
Additional Compensation
- KBR may offer bonuses, commissions, or other forms of compensation to certain job titles or levels, per internal policy or contractual designation.
- Additional compensation may include sign-on bonuses, relocation benefits, short-term incentives, long-term incentives, or discretionary payments for exceptional performance.
