Software Engineer Lead

Amentum is hiring a Software Engineer Lead for onsite work supporting mission software delivery for the NORAD Cheyenne Mountain Complex (NCMC) ITW/AA and Space Support Contract II (NISSC 3). This day-shift role is based in Colorado Springs, CO and combines hands-on engineering with team leadership on security-minded systems.

Compensation: $170,000 - $185,000 per year. Travel: up to 10% of the time. Telework: not available. Relocation: not available. This position will be filled and worked onsite at the Chidlaw Building and Peterson Space Force Base, Colorado Springs, CO.

What you will do

• Lead software engineering teams in the design, development, and delivery of reliable mission software aligned to customer requirements
• Apply experience developing and integrating full-stack applications with familiarity in containerization technology
• Maintain high standards for code quality, security, and testing across the software development lifecycle
• Collaborate with product owners, scrum-masters, stakeholders, and cross-functional teams to turn operational needs into clear technical plans
• Champion modern development practices, including automation, DevSecOps principles, and robust CI/CD pipelines
• Mentor and support junior software developers to grow skills and improve team capability
• Apply cybersecurity principles and relevant compliance requirements for mission or enterprise systems
• Balance hands-on execution with strategic leadership responsibilities

Required qualifications

• Experience with ITW/AA or the NISSC II contract within the past year
• Active Secret clearance required
• AT Level II Certification (Security+ CE or equivalent)
• 12+ years of general work experience
• 10+ years directly related experience as a Software Developer
• Experience leading software development teams
• Experience mentoring junior software developers
• Experience developing technical solutions to meet defined requirements
• Detailed understanding of containers, including experience containerizing applications
• Experience working in an Agile development team and completing tasks on time

Desired experience

• Experience migrating monolithic applications to a microservices architecture
• Experience with Test Driven Development and Continuous Integration environments
• Experience working within a VMware Tanzu environment
• Experience working with DAST (Dynamic Application Security Testing) tools
• Experience working with CCIC2S applications
• Additional experience in Test Driven Development and Continuous Integration environments
