Job Description

You will join the Commercial & Investment Bank - Digital & Platform Services, contributing to secure, scalable software across multiple domains with an emphasis on AI assisted development and architecture artifacts.

Responsibilities

  • Deliver software solutions through design, development, and troubleshooting, applying critical thinking beyond routine approaches.
  • Produce secure, high-quality production code and maintain algorithms that operate in sync with relevant systems.
  • Utilize enterprise authorized AI coding assist tools to raise code quality, speed, and productivity for complex deliverables such as code generation, refactoring, unit tests, and documentation.
  • Validate outputs via peer reviews, automated testing, and adherence to secure coding standards.
  • Share learnings and reusable patterns to boost overall team effectiveness.
  • Apply knowledge of the Software Development Life Cycle toolchain, including AI-assisted development and automation, to maximize automation value.
  • Produce architecture and design artifacts for complex applications and ensure design constraints are met by the code.
  • Gather, analyze, and synthesize data to create visualizations and reporting that support continuous improvement of software applications and systems.
  • Proactively identify hidden problems and patterns in data to drive improvements in coding hygiene and system architecture.
  • Contribute to software engineering communities of practice and events exploring new technologies.
  • Maintain formal training or certification in software engineering concepts with 3+ years of applied experience.
  • Demonstrate hands-on experience with enterprise AI assisted development tools, critically evaluating AI outputs for correctness, performance, and security.
  • Understand responsible AI use in engineering workflows and guide peers on safe and effective practices within team standards.
  • Leverage IBM iSeries (AS/400) development experience with DB2 for i including files, views, indexes, triggers, and stored procedures.
  • Work with LANSA / Visual LANSA IDE development and LANSA upgrade planning and execution.
  • Engage with IBM MQ and CDC replication (InfoSphere CDC / IIDR or equivalents).
  • Develop in Java and Python on IBM i (PASE environment) and debug using STRDBG, STRISDB, Service Entry Points, job logs, Visual Explain, and remote Java/Python debugging.
  • Support sustained resiliency and maintenance efforts including HA/DR, PTF management, performance tuning, and technical debt remediation.
  • Use Git (Bitbucket/GitHub), Aldon LMI, Robot Scheduling, and ServiceNow within development workflows.
  • Explore AI powered tools such as GitHub Copilot, ChatGPT, and Claude, applying prompt engineering to legacy code analysis.
  • Maintain strong proficiency in CLP, CLLE, RPGLE, SQLRPGLE, LANSA, and Visual LANSA IDE (free-format preferred).
  • Apply ILE concepts, service programs, and modular design; exposure to web services (REST/SOAP) from IBM i or Python/Java.
  • Demonstrate knowledge of data areas, data queues, and inter-process communication on IBM i; familiarity with IBM i Access Client Solutions (ACS) and Navigator; experience with IBM Rational Developer for i (RDi) or VS Code with Code for IBM i extension.
  • Hands-on experience with HA/DR tools such as MIMIX, iTera, Quick-EDD, or IBM PowerHA.
  • ITIL foundation knowledge for service management and change advisory processes.
  • Experience integrating AI tools into CI/CD pipelines or automated code review workflows; awareness of AI governance and data privacy when using LLMs with enterprise code.
  • SAFe or other scaled Agile framework experience; familiarity with CI/CD pipelines in an IBM i context.

  • Formal training or certification in software engineering concepts with 3+ years of applied experience.
  • Hands-on experience using enterprise authorized AI assisted development tools, with the ability to critically evaluate AI outputs.
  • IBM iSeries (AS/400) development experience with DB2 for i including files, views, indexes, triggers, and stored procedures.
  • Proficiency in CLP, CLLE, RPGLE, SQLRPGLE, LANSA, and Visual LANSA IDE development (free-format preferred).
  • Experience with ILE concepts, service programs, modular design, and web services (REST/SOAP) from IBM i or Python/Java.
  • Familiarity with IBM i Access Client Solutions (ACS), IBM Navigator, and development tools such as RDi or VS Code with Code for IBM i extension.
  • Hands-on debugging skills with STRDBG and related IBM i debugging tools, plus remote Java/Python debugging.
  • Experience with HA/DR tooling and maintenance practices, including performance tuning and debt remediation.
  • Proficiency with Git, Aldon LMI, Robot Scheduling, and ServiceNow in development workflows.
  • Understanding of responsible AI use, data sensitivity, and secure handling practices within engineering processes.
  • Ability to work in a SAFe or scaled Agile environment and understand CI/CD pipelines in an IBM i context.
