Software Engineer III

Full-stack Software Engineer III role on the npm team at GitHub, building and maintaining open source tooling for the JavaScript ecosystem.

Responsibilities

• Write, review, and maintain code and technical documentation
• Engage daily with the community, consumers, and contributors
• Collaborate with internal and external stakeholders to define, design, and deliver new features aligned with business objectives and end-user needs
• Help triage and remediate bugs and security vulnerabilities
• Steward high-impact JavaScript open source projects used by millions of developers, supporting billions of downloads and contributing to the package registry ecosystem

Requirements

• 4+ years of Software Engineering, Computer Science, or related technical discipline experience, with proven experience maintaining and delivering production software (including C, C++, C#, JavaScript, Go, Ruby, Rust, or Python)
• OR Associate’s Degree in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Electronics Engineering, Math, Physics, Computer Engineering, or related field, plus 3+ years experience
• OR Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Electronics Engineering, Math, Physics, Computer Engineering, or related field, plus 2+ years in Computer Science or related technical discipline with proven coding experience (including C, C++, C#, JavaScript, Go, Ruby, Rust, or Python)
• OR Master’s Degree in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Electronics Engineering, Math, Physics, Computer Engineering, or related field
• OR Equivalent experience
• 2+ years experience with Cloud Services
• 2+ years experience developing and debugging large scale projects, applications, or developer tools

Preferred Qualifications

• 2+ years of Node.js experience
• 3+ years of cloud services experience, including AWS development
• Experience building applications following the highest security standards
• Experience using AI-assisted coding and productivity tools

Compensation

• Base salary range: USD 107,700 - 285,900 per year
