Software Engineer III

Design, build, and modernize backend systems for online banking through scalable services, complex third-party integrations, and legacy-to-modern platform migration.

Responsibilities

• Own the development and rollout of entire products or large projects, with emphasis on backend services, C++ modernization, and complex third-party integrations
• Apply and reinforce department coding standards and best practices, focusing on TypeScript, Node.js, API design, and secure integration patterns
• Contribute to modernization of existing C++ systems while maintaining production reliability
• Manage delivery for integration-heavy initiatives and legacy-to-modern migrations using strong project management practices
• Produce technical specifications such as API contracts, integration patterns, and modernization approaches for legacy C++ components
• Identify project and programming risks, especially risks tied to third-party dependencies and system interoperability
• Promote engineering practices and tooling including Agile, CI/CD, and service-oriented architecture, and support colleagues with backend, integration, and modernization techniques
• Use expertise in backend systems and integration frameworks to help evolve legacy C++ platforms
• Investigate production issues proactively, drive problem-solving, and provide thought leadership in integration design, interoperability, and migration strategy for online banking domain systems
• Coach and mentor less experienced Software Engineers, focusing on scalable services, complex integrations, and legacy-to-modern transitions

Requirements

• Accredited university, college, or trade school education and training in applicable technology; advanced degrees or relevant certifications preferred
• 7+ years of successful, relevant software engineering experience, strongly focused on backend services and complex system integrations
• Advanced proficiency in C++ plus experience with TypeScript and Node.js, including modern backend development patterns and scalable service design
• Experience designing, building, testing, debugging, and maintaining scalable applications and services in a production environment
• Strong familiarity with performance considerations for backend applications
• Experience with financial systems, core banking platforms, online banking ecosystems, APIs, or third-party vendor integrations strongly preferred
• Working familiarity with C++ codebases, including supporting, maintaining, and contributing to modernization of legacy systems
• Experience with API design, API contracts, third-party integrations, vendor dependencies, and system interoperability
• Ability to work in complex sections of major applications, preferably in online banking, financial technology, or similarly highly integrated enterprise environments
• Experience contributing to legacy-to-modern platform migrations, service-oriented architectures, CI/CD practices, and Agile development environments
• Proven ability to take ownership of large projects or product rollouts and deliver effectively across technical and cross-functional stakeholders
• Ability to coach, mentor, and support less experienced engineers in backend development, integration practices, and modernization strategies
