Software Engineer II Python/Observation

This Software Engineer II position sits within JPMorganChase’s AI/ML Data Platforms team on an agile delivery environment. The role focuses on building, enhancing, and troubleshooting secure, stable, and scalable software components with a strong emphasis on observability.

Key Responsibilities

• Execute software solution design, development, and technical troubleshooting using standard engineering approaches.
• Produce secure, high-quality code using the syntax of at least one programming language with limited guidance.
• Use enterprise-authorized AI coding assist tools in the work environment to improve code quality, delivery speed, and productivity (for example, code generation and refactoring, unit test creation, and documentation), while validating outputs through peer review, automated testing, and secure coding standards.
• Design, develop, code, and troubleshoot while accounting for upstream and downstream dependencies and related technical implications.
• Apply Software Development Life Cycle (SDLC) toolchain practices, including enterprise-authorized AI-assisted development and automation capabilities, to increase the value delivered through automation.
• Conduct technical troubleshooting to break down solutions and resolve problems of basic complexity.
• Gather and analyze large, diverse data sets to identify issues and support decision-making for secure and stable application development.
• Learn and apply system processes and methodologies to develop secure, stable code and systems.

Required Qualifications

• Formal training or certification in software engineering concepts and 2+ years of applied experience.
• Hands-on experience in system design, application development, testing, and operational stability.
• Practical experience developing, debugging, and maintaining code in Python within a large corporate environment, along with one or more modern programming languages and database querying languages.
• Experience with observability, including white-box and black-box monitoring, service level objective alerting, and telemetry collection using tools such as Grafana, Dynatrace, Prometheus, Datadog, Splunk, and others.
• Strong understanding of SLI/SLO/SLA and Error Budgets.
• Understanding of responsible AI use in engineering workflows, including data sensitivity, secure handling of inputs and outputs, and adherence to resiliency and security expectations.
• Experience across the full Software Development Life Cycle.
• Exposure to agile methodologies, including CI/CD, Application Resiliency, and Security.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience building data pipelines using Spark.
• Exposure to AWS and Databricks platform administration.
• Knowledge of containerization and orchestration using Docker and Kubernetes.

• Compensation: USD 123,500 to 150,000 per year
