Software Engineer II
Job Description
Join Tempus as a Software Engineer II and help build custom software, systems, and integrations that support real workflows. This remote (U.S.) role focuses on Python development paired with database interfacing, web services, and scalable, secure application delivery in an agile/scrum environment.
What you’ll do
- Design and develop custom software, systems, and integrations based on ticket specifications.
- Partner with a team of software engineers, QA engineers, and business systems analysts to deliver enhanced product value using scrum processes.
- Design technical solutions with IT operations teams.
- Participate in scrum ceremonies, including backlog grooming, sprint planning, and daily standups.
- Work with stakeholders to understand workflows and requests, and translate them into technical requirements.
- Use critical thinking to identify design issues and propose technical or functional improvements.
- Support leads and systems analysts by curating tickets and providing workflow analysis.
- Monitor process and log information, troubleshoot problems, and improve application reliability.
- Develop, maintain, and enhance Python applications with an emphasis on scalability, performance, and security.
What you bring
- Minimum 3 years of professional Python experience.
- Experience with Python interfacing with multiple databases, including RDS and NoSQL.
- Experience participating in code review on both giving and receiving feedback.
- Ability to work with production and consumption of web services such as REST, SOAP, and AMQP.
- Experience with Flask and/or Django, plus working knowledge of various frameworks.
- Comfort with frontend web development using HTML, CSS, and JavaScript.
- Strongly recommended: frontend framework experience such as ReactJS.
- Good understanding of relational databases (for example, MySQL) and confidence writing and optimizing complex queries across multiple tables.
- Experience with non-relational databases (for example, MongoDB).
- Ability to programmatically read and write structured and unstructured formats such as JSON, CSV, and XML.
- Basic understanding and usage of Docker containers.
- Knowledge of, or interest in learning, lab processes, protocols, and data structures.

Compensation
USD 85,000 - 130,000 per year
