Job Description
Enlighten is hiring a Software Engineer for hybrid work based in Fort Meade, MD.
- Design, develop, and implement complex Java-based software capabilities
- Use strong testing skills to support reliable releases
- Demonstrate troubleshooting ability and performance under pressure with multiple deadlines
- Stay current on emerging software development trends and technologies
- Integrate and apply Next-Gen Coding Agents in daily engineering work (experience with Claude Code and/or Google Antigravity / Gemini agentic workflows)
- Build agentic features using autonomous agents for multi-file implementations, complex refactoring, and automated unit/integration test generation
- Guide AI agents across complex, multi-repository architectures and manage context efficiently
- Audit agent-generated code for security, performance, and architectural alignment
- Work in a fast-paced small business environment with a talented team
- Perform additional duties as assigned
Requirements
- U.S. Citizenship required
- U.S. Government Security Clearance required; not on day one; must be obtained and maintained
- Experience: 5+ years software engineering with modern Java frameworks and libraries (examples: Spring, Guava) and a Bachelor’s in a related field
- OR 3 years relevant experience with a Master’s in a related field
- OR High School Diploma or equivalent plus 9 years relevant experience
- Experience designing enterprise APIs
- Experience with RESTful web services
- Experience with Microservices architecture
- Proficiency with Object Oriented Programming (OOP) paradigms
- Experience across the agile software lifecycle
- Proven ability to learn quickly; comfortable independently and in a team setting
- Experience with Linux
- Experience with configuration management tools (examples: Git, Nexus, Maven)
- Hybrid schedule: average 1–2 days per week on customer site in Fort Meade, MD; additional visits to headquarters in Columbia, MD; flexibility required for schedule changes

Preferred Requirements

- Experience delivering with autonomous agents for multi-file implementation, refactoring, and automated testing
- Experience with cloud-based technologies (AWS, Azure)
- Experience with distributed databases and NoSQL databases, plus full text-search engines (examples: Elasticsearch, MongoDB, Solr)
- Scripting experience (huge plus)
- Familiarity with Data Lakes or Warehouses (huge plus)
- Understanding of agile software development methodologies and standard tool suites (examples: JIRA, Confluence, Github Enterprise)
Location: Fort Meade, MD (hybrid). Salary range: USD 111,662 - 150,000 per year. Tags: #LI-DS1; Mid-Senior Level.
