Job Description

The Software Engineer Fullstack / Backend II position supports Splunk’s Control Plane organization, working on a self-service automated cloud platform that deploys and operates services across multiple cloud environments. The role includes building developer tools and abstractions, running production systems, participating in on-call, and integrating AI-enabled capabilities into engineering workflows.

USD 111,700 - 203,100 per year

Role Focus

Contribute to a self-service cloud platform used to deploy and operate services across multiple cloud platforms. Work supports internal teams by creating developer-facing abstractions, then deploying, monitoring, and maintaining the production systems that run enterprise services at scale.

Responsibilities

  • Contribute to a large-scale codebase deploying daily across multiple cloud platforms, including AWS, GCP, Azure, and GovCloud, to serve thousands of enterprise customers.
  • Architect self-service developer tools and abstractions that allow internal engineering teams to manage infrastructure safely without central bottlenecks.
  • Deploy and monitor production systems across multi-cloud environments, tuning telemetry, metrics, and alerting to support operational excellence.
  • Participate in supported on-call rotations to investigate complex anomalies, resolve production incidents, and determine root causes.
  • Build and integrate AI-powered tools into engineering workflows to automate configuration changes and improve continuous delivery pipelines.

Required Qualifications

  • Master’s degree with 0 years of work experience; or
  • Bachelor’s degree with 2 years of work experience; or
  • An educational or workforce development program (e.g., Associate’s, Apprenticeship, Boot camp, or Certification) with 3 years of work experience; or
  • High school diploma (or equivalent) with 4 years of work experience.

Qualifying education and work experience should be in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Software Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Information Systems, Mathematics, or a related technical discipline.

  • Demonstrated proficiency writing software, data structures, and algorithms in at least one modern programming language such as Go, Python, or Ruby.
  • Hands-on experience building, deploying, or managing cloud infrastructure across major cloud providers, including AWS, GCP, or Microsoft Azure.
  • Applied coursework or practical experience with Infrastructure as Code (IaC), Configuration as Code (CaC), or automation tooling such as Terraform, Ansible, Puppet, or CloudFormation.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Practical experience with Docker containers and Kubernetes container orchestration, including command-line tooling (kubectl).
  • Working knowledge of distributed systems concepts, including concurrency control, consistency models, CAP theorem, or distributed databases/file systems.
  • Familiarity with CI/CD deployment pipelines, automated testing, and system observability/telemetry, plus experience in Unix/Linux terminal environments.
  • Experience leveraging generative AI tools or machine learning models to automate developer tooling, infrastructure workflows, or script execution.
  • Demonstrated ability to take proactive ownership of engineering deliverables, communicate technical concepts effectively, and thrive in an agile team environment.

Additional Eligibility Requirement

As part of this role, services must be maintained in a FedRAMP compliant environment. This requires that you must be a U.S. citizen.
