Software Engineer

Hay X is building inventory management software for agriculture, helping customers manage the day-to-day work of weights, loads, sales, and invoices. This full-time, onsite role is for a Senior Software Engineer who will work closely with the founder and the development team to improve the product, deliver new features, and build reliable APIs and integrations.

Location: Junction City, OR (onsite)
Compensation: USD 30 - 35 per hourly

What you’ll do

• Build and maintain features across web and mobile platforms.
• Collaborate directly with the founder to understand customer workflows, priorities, and how the product is used in practice.
• Help simplify inventory management, including weight tickets, loads, sales, and invoices.
• Improve reliability, performance, and overall user experience.
• Develop APIs and integrations with external services.
• Investigate bugs, identify root causes, and support customers when issues arise.
• Work with the team through code reviews and clear communication.
• Own features from planning through release, then follow up with improvements.
• Balance delivery speed with maintainable code, testing, and sound technical decisions.

What we’re looking for

• Strong experience building and shipping production software.
• Full-stack development experience across frontend applications, backend services, APIs, and databases.
• Experience working on a startup or small team with significant individual responsibility.
• Ability to translate complex business workflows into simple user experiences.
• Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to work independently.
• Clear communication, dependable follow-through, and attention to detail.

• A practical approach to AI development tools, including responsibility for reviewing and validating results.
• Experience as a founder or technical co-founder.
• Experience growing a product from early users to broader adoption.
• Experience with mobile applications, SaaS, marketplaces, or business management software.
• Familiarity with agriculture, trucking, logistics, inventory, or accounting workflows (agricultural experience helpful, not required).
