Software Engineer
Job Description
Base-2 Solutions seeks a Software Engineer to develop, maintain, and enhance complex software systems using documented requirements. The role covers design, coding, debugging, integration, testing, and documentation, with opportunities to support system design trade-offs and performance and functional standards.
Key Responsibilities
- Analyze user requirements to derive software design and performance requirements.
- Design and code new software or modify existing software to add new features.
- Debug existing software and correct defects.
- Integrate existing software into new or modified systems or operating environments.
- Develop simple data queries for existing or proposed databases or data repositories.
- Recommend improvements to documentation and software development process standards.
- Develop or implement algorithms to meet or exceed system performance and functional standards.
- Assist with developing and executing test procedures for software components.
- Write or review software and system documentation.
- Develop software solutions by analyzing system performance standards, coordinating with users or system engineers, analyzing systems flow and data usage, and investigating problem areas.
- Serve as a team lead at the level appropriate to the software development process used on a given project.
- Modify existing software to correct errors, adapt to new hardware, or improve performance.
- Design, develop, and modify software systems using scientific analysis and mathematical models to predict and measure outcomes.
- Design or implement complex database or data repository interfaces and queries.
- Oversee one or more software development teams and ensure work is completed according to software development process constraints.
- Design or implement complex algorithms that meet strict timing, system resource, or interface constraints.
- Perform quality control on team products.
- Coordinate with system and hardware engineers to derive software requirements and identify project limitations, capabilities, performance requirements, and interfaces.
- Coordinate software system installation and monitor equipment functioning to ensure operational specifications are met.
- Implement recommendations for improving documentation and software development process standards.
Position Summary
The Software Engineer will develop, maintain, and enhance complex and diverse software systems based on documented requirements. Work may be performed individually or as part of a team, including reviewing and testing software components for adherence to design requirements, documenting test results, and resolving software problem reports. The role uses appropriate software development and design methodologies and provides input to system design, including hardware and software trade-offs, software reuse, and requirements analysis from the system level to individual components.
Required Education and Experience
- Fourteen (14) years of experience as a Software Engineer in programs and contracts of similar scope, type, and complexity.
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or a related discipline from an accredited college or university.
- Four (4) years of additional Software Engineer experience on projects with similar software processes may substitute for a bachelor’s degree.
- Required education and experience equivalency: Bachelor’s degree with 14 years as a Software Engineer, or no bachelor’s degree with 18 years as a Software Engineer (14 years plus 4 years additional experience substituting for degree).
Required Security Clearance
Active Top Secret/SCI with Full Scope Polygraph
