Software Engineer

Join Salesforce to build and operate large-scale distributed systems and public-cloud automation, with AI agent workflows integrated into production processes.

Responsibilities

• Develop cloud infrastructure automation tools, frameworks, workflows, and validation platforms across public cloud providers including AWS, GCP, Azure, or Alibaba
• Design, build, debug, and operate resilient distributed systems running across thousands of compute nodes in multiple data centers
• Ship production-grade software using modern engineering practices, integrating AI as a core part of the development workflow via tools such as Cursor, Windsurf, Claude, and the OpenAI API
• Use and contribute to open source technologies including Spinnaker and Zookeeper
• Create Infrastructure-as-Code using Terraform
• Write microservices using containerization and orchestration frameworks such as Kubernetes, Docker, and Mesos
• Design and orchestrate complex systems so AI agents integrate reliably into human workflows at scale
• Contribute to a shared system context repository containing system designs, constraints, and standards to support accurate and reliable AI operation
• Evaluate code (human or AI-generated) for correctness, quality, security, and performance
• Resolve complex technical issues and drive improvements to availability, resilience, and performance
• Balance live-site management, feature delivery, and the retirement of technical debt
• Participate in the team on-call rotation to address real-time issues and keep services highly available

Requirements

• Related technical degree required
• 3+ years of backend software development experience
• Strong programming knowledge in Java, Golang, Python, or Ruby
• Experience owning and operating multiple instances of a critical service
• Experience with Agile development methodology and Test Driven Development
• Experience with critical infrastructure services including monitoring, alerting, logging, and reporting
• Experience with distributed database systems and relational databases such as PostgreSQL is a plus
• A demonstrated, genuine AI-first approach to engineering, using AI to move faster and contribute beyond core specialty
• Experience using AI tools in development workflows (e.g., Claude Code, GitHub Copilot, Codex, Cursor)
• Advanced prompt engineering skills, including writing precise, structured prompts and building system context to make AI outputs reliable, secure, and production-ready

Compensation

• Salary range: $117,200 - $194,200 per year
• Typical base salary range: $117,200 - $176,700 annually
• In select cities within the San Francisco and New York City metropolitan area: $141,200 - $194,200 annually
• Range represents base salary only; does not include company bonus, sales incentives, equity, or benefits (as applicable)
