Software Engineer 1, Platform
Job Description
Sydecar is hiring a Software Engineer 1 on the Platform Team to build internal developer platform capabilities and shared services that improve CI/CD, infrastructure reliability, release and test automation, and security.
Responsibilities
- Develop and iterate on an internal developer platform including CI/CD pipelines, build and deploy automation, and local and preview environments to support a safer, faster “golden path” for engineering teams.
- Design, operate, and scale core shared services and cloud infrastructure using infrastructure as code with Terraform, with emphasis on reliability, observability, and cost efficiency.
- Improve release automation and test automation so production deployments are routine and low-risk, including safe rollout patterns and easy rollbacks.
- Strengthen the platform’s security posture and support the growth of a distributed security practice across the engineering organization.
- Collaborate with product teams as an enabler: establish standards and interfaces, and co-build when work overlaps or dependencies are time-sensitive, while staying focused on general-purpose platform foundations.
- Work from concept through deployment, balancing speed with scalability.
- Grow through pairing, code review, and mentorship from senior engineers; contribute to architecture discussions.
- Collaborate closely with engineering, product, design, and operations.
Requirements
- Strong computer science foundation, including data structures, algorithms, and systems fundamentals (degree in CS or related field, or equivalent practical experience).
- AI-native workflow: comfortable using agentic / AI-assisted development tools as part of everyday development.
- Curiosity and ownership: fast learner, self-starter, and able to drive tasks to completion.
- Collaboration: clear communication and ability to work effectively with a team.
- Experience level: 0–2 years of professional work experience (internships, co-ops, substantial personal or academic projects count).
Technology Stack
- TypeScript, React, NestJS, Prisma, PostgreSQL, Jest, React Testing Library, Playwright, Figma, Terraform, GCP
Bonus Qualifications
- Fintech experience (payments, compliance, or regulated environments).
- Exposure to internal developer platforms or developer-experience tooling.
- Familiarity with Terraform and GCP; exposure to observability tooling (logging, metrics, tracing).
- Security interest, including OWASP-style practices, secrets management, or dependency and vulnerability scanning.
- Exposure to TypeScript/Node.js, NestJS, Prisma, PostgreSQL, and Playwright / React Testing Library.
About the Platform Team
- Owns shared foundations: developer productivity, core services and infrastructure, release and test automation, and security.
- Supports engineering across safer, faster, scalable delivery by building “paved roads” for product teams to execute effectively.
Compensation
- USD 136,000 - 155,000 per year
Location and Work Model
- San Francisco, CA (hybrid)
- Hybrid role based in San Francisco or New York City with two to three days per week in office.
