Job Description

Johnson Service Group Inc. is hiring a Senior Software Engineer to support control room simulator environments through reliable, client-server software. This role is 100% remote across the Contiguous US, with occasional business travel to company facilities as required.

In this position, you will design, build, test, and maintain the software systems that enable simulator operations, with an emphasis on uptime, safety, and performance. You will also collaborate with cross-functional engineering teams to deliver scalable features and troubleshoot complex defects.

What you’ll do

  • Design, build, test, and maintain robust software applications supporting control room simulators and related technical platforms.
  • Diagnose complex software defects, develop reliable solutions, and identify root causes to improve system reliability and performance.
  • Write clean, maintainable code that follows strict configuration management and software QA standards.
  • Partner with cross-functional engineering teams to evaluate architectures, review code, and deliver scalable, high-quality features.
  • Manage local and remote hardware configurations (workstations, displays, networking) as needed, with limited paid travel to company facilities.

Requirements

  • B.S. in Software Engineering, Computer Science, Computer Programming, or a related technical discipline. Degrees in Mechanical or Nuclear Engineering with 5+ years of proven software deliverables will also be considered.
  • 5+ years of hands-on professional software engineering experience, ideally in high-uptime, customer-facing, or client-server systems.
  • Strong proficiency with C#, WPF, SQL, Visual Studio, and Git/GitLab.
  • Solid understanding of object-oriented design, data structures, and performance optimization.
  • Knowledge of networking fundamentals and distributed architecture.
  • Must be eligible to work under U.S. Department of Energy 10 CFR Part 810 regulations.
  • Ability to investigate bug reports independently and translate abstract requirements into working code.
  • Comfort discussing technical details with both developers and non-technical stakeholders.
  • Commitment to rigorous software testing, continuous learning, and operational safety standards.

  • Location: Houston, TX (remote)
  • Work model: 100% Remote within the Contiguous US, with occasional business travel as required.

Physical demands & environment

  • Ability to operate standard office equipment and communicate via phone/video; adapt quickly in a fast-paced environment.
  • Position involves sitting, standing, walking, and occasional hardware assembly (for example, cabling and computer setups).
  • Ability to travel nationally using standard commercial transit.

Salary

USD 125,000 per year (as listed).
