Rippling seeks a Senior Staff Software Engineer to oversee the HRIS organization, responsible for designing and scaling platform primitives and end-to-end workflows used by millions, while guiding technical strategy across multiple teams.

  • Compensation: USD 207,000 – 345,000 per year
  • Experience: 10+ years of professional software engineering

Responsibilities

  • Establish and guide the HRIS organization's technical strategy, mapping a long-term plan for architecture, scalability, reliability, and usability across both platform and product surfaces.
  • Design and deliver core data models, APIs, services, and abstractions that form the HRIS foundation and are utilized by multiple product teams.
  • Own end-to-end engineering of key HRIS product workflows such as hiring, onboarding, benefits, time, and compliance, ensuring robustness, performance, and extensibility.
  • Lead cross-organizational initiatives including global scale-out, regulatory compliance, and high-availability architecture spanning several teams.
  • Elevate engineering standards by influencing design and execution across the organization, mentoring senior engineers, and promoting best practices in system and product engineering.
  • Collaborate closely with engineering leadership across HRIS and adjacent domains to align technical vision and deliver cohesive solutions.

Requirements

  • A minimum of 10 years in professional software engineering with technical leadership driving impact across the organization.
  • Strong track record in both platform and product engineering, designing distributed systems and building complex, large-scale, user-facing applications.
  • Expertise in system architecture, data modeling, and service design, balancing long-term strategy with iterative delivery.
  • Experience operating in high-growth, fast-paced environments where platform primitives and product requirements evolve rapidly.
  • Proven technical leadership and mentorship abilities with influence across multiple teams and organizations.
