Senior Staff Data Engineer - Platform Data and Analytics

Faire is seeking a Senior Staff Data Engineer to define technology strategy and lead cross team data platforms (Data Infrastructure and Analytics) to accelerate data driven insights.

Responsibilities

• Plan and execute scalable technology programs aligned with Faire's growth; steer architecture with emphasis on data integrity, security, performance, scale, reliability, and observability.
• Participate in team planning and prioritization, balancing urgent needs with long term goals.
• Provide technical guidance and mentorship on complex open ended problems, including cost efficient compute and storage, ETL and ELT pipelines, data ingest and warehousing, monitoring, alerting, workload cost tracking, foundational asset design, data security, privacy, and governance.

Requirements

• Experience designing, building, and operating data streaming, batch, ETL/ELT, orchestration, storage, compute, and workflow systems at scale.
• Proven ability to define architecture patterns and deliver reliable, scalable data pipelines, data movement orchestration, querying, transformation, and analytics engineering frameworks.
• Strong SQL and Python skills.
• Data warehousing experience at petabyte scale.
• Snowflake, Airflow, and Spark experience is highly valuable.
• Understanding of performance, capacity, and cost trade offs in data processing; able to guide technical and product teams on these decisions.
• Experience diagnosing and addressing production data system issues at scale; implementing patterns for workload performance and cost optimization.
• Experience operating in a growth stage company with multiple data teams and 60+ people, enabling self serve data capabilities for teams.
• Excellent communication, leadership, and influencing skills.
• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science/Software Engineering or equivalent industry experience.
• Technologies used and taught: AWS, Snowflake, Airflow, Spark, Python, Kotlin.

Salary Range

• Location: San Francisco, CA (hybrid)
• Pay range: USD 268,000 - 368,500 per year
