Job Description

Apollo Professional Solutions, Inc. seeks a Senior Specialist Software Engineer in Huntsville, AL to support the development of real-time embedded control software and application software for propulsion systems across the full software development lifecycle. This is a hands-on role spanning requirements through verification, with potential participation in live hot-fire engine testing.

Responsibilities

  • Support a software development team through requirements analysis, software design, implementation, unit testing, and integration for embedded real-time control systems and or application software.
  • Develop and maintain software using C/C++.
  • Analyze software requirements and translate them into software designs and implementations.
  • Perform software unit testing, integration testing, troubleshooting, and verification activities.
  • Produce comprehensive software documentation throughout the software development lifecycle.
  • Support internal and customer reviews of software work products.
  • Assist with preparation for program milestone reviews.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional engineering teams in a shared environment.
  • Support hardware/software integration and laboratory test activities.
  • Contribute to software process improvement initiatives by analyzing software metrics and identifying process improvement opportunities.
  • Develop and evaluate software process improvement options, including refining software metric definitions and collection methods.
  • Evaluate industry tools and resources that support software organization growth and maturity.
  • Travel up to 10% may be required to support testing and program activities.

Required Qualifications

  • 6+ years of experience in embedded real-time software development.
  • 6+ years of software development experience using C/C++.
  • Previous experience developing safety-critical, mission-critical, or human-rated software.
  • Demonstrated ability to produce comprehensive software development documentation across the full software lifecycle.
  • Experience working with requirements, design, implementation, testing, integration, and software verification activities.
  • Ability to work effectively in a team environment.
  • Active Secret Security Clearance required at the start of employment.
  • U.S. Citizenship required.
  • Dual citizenship is not permitted for this position due to federal government access requirements.
  • Ability to satisfy federal government requirements for access to government information.

Position Overview

This Senior Specialist Software Engineer role supports the development of real-time embedded control software and application software for propulsion systems. The position includes end-to-end engineering responsibilities: requirements analysis, software design, implementation, unit testing, integration, documentation, and software reviews. Work occurs in a fast-paced laboratory environment and may involve participation in live hot-fire engine testing and other program test activities.

Preferred / Desired Qualifications

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Experience with real-time operating systems such as NI Linux, Integrity, Red Hat Linux, or QNX.
  • Experience with communications protocols such as MIL-STD-1553, TCP/IP, RS-422, or SPI.
  • Experience with UML.
  • Experience with design tools such as Enterprise Architect, Rhapsody, or Cameo.
  • Hardware and software integration experience.
  • Familiarity with laboratory test equipment, including multimeters, oscilloscopes, and power supplies.
  • Familiarity with software development IDEs and software lifecycle management tools.
  • Understanding of CMMI Level 3 or higher software development processes.
  • Experience working in aerospace, defense, propulsion, avionics, or other safety-critical environments.

Education

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Systems Engineering, or another related field, with a minimum of 6 years of relevant experience; or
  • Graduate degree with a minimum of 4 years of relevant experience; or
  • In lieu of a degree, a minimum of 10 years of relevant experience.

Pay and Travel

  • Pay Rate: $69.50/hour
  • Pay Range: $65.00 - $69.50 per hour
  • Travel: Up to 10%
